Does anyone have any info on mule deer hunting in this area? I don't have the points to draw there, but I'm thinkin about saving up for a future hunt. I know this is a limited quota area and have heard this is a trophy area. I have basically hunted all the easy to draw areas around there and have had some sucess.

Thanks
JW

It certainly isn't being managed as a trophy area by the Game and Fish. Folks been taking Carters and Eastmans too seriously...

Triple B - acually it is! Went to "special management" status last year. Will take a few years to show the effects. Probably more important, but ignored by everyone on these forums, is that it needs quite a bit of habitat improvement.

Don't you know that if Eastmans and Carters don't recommend it, it ain't worth hunting?

From what i saw on our 3 week hunt last year, the unit has a fair/good amount of deer and a great buck to doe ratio. Most all who had tags filled out early and later in the hunt, when it seemed we were the only ones hunting, there was still plenty of bucks, some decent ones, that must have not been taken. These bucks were on public land and i think that in a couple/few years that if left as is, it could be a VERY good hunt!

From what I was told by the G&F special management relates soley to the ratio of bucks to does. Has nothing to do with quality. If the ratio is increased by say another 10 spikes & two points so the higher ratio is met, than their special management objective has been reached for that area. 89 also supposedly falls under the same status. I've also been told at numerous spring G&F meetings that no area in the state is managed for quality. Let me know if that's not the case...
