public land eastern colorado

Was wondering if there is much public land to hunt mule deer on in any of the eastern regions or is most of the land private. Would love to chase some of those plains deer with my bow but don't want to waste time in an area without any accesible land to hunt.

There's not much public land in the eastern plains. You can find a few spots to hunt, but the best quality is all tied up. Seems like it gets tougher all the time, too. You would have to start early - like last pheasant season and try to contact landowners to have the best chance. It can be done, but it's not easy.

Good luck with that one man! Eastern CO is almost entirely private land. No BLM, very little state owned ground. Best bet like stated above is to have the time to spend making landowner contacts. Pretty tough if youre an out of stater.

Give it a couple more years and the eastern plains will be very accessible. By then the Outfitters will have finished leasing every square inch up so all you'll have to do is write a check to them.
:-(

Now...prior to the Internet & Outdoor channel, getting access was as easy as just asking. But every year now it seems I get more and more "Sorry Jason, but I've leased out the hunting rights"

Sometimes I really wonder who does more damage to the hunting sport. HSUS & PeTA or Guides & Outfitters

The other problem is the amount of money the outfitters are charging to hunt the eastern plains! They know someone is going to pay those high priced fees because if you want to hunt you're gonna have to pay. I wouldn't burn my points unless i knew forsure i had a good place to hunt.
