Just a few quick questions guys;
are you required to buy a general hunt liscence in Nevada before applying for big game?
Any suggestions/advice on hunting the north eaastern portion of the state?

No you don't have to buy a hunting license to put in. But if successful you will have to. Also if you don't buy a license you don't get a bonus point.

If you want to accrue your points you have to buy the license. I work with a guy who found that out the hard way.

Nothings FREE anymore, you want to hunt, you have to pay for it and the states got you by the nads.

My 2 cents: In the Western States; The Nevada licence is more worth it than waisting your money in Oregon, Idaho or California. Im talking big game, small game and fishing, Nevada would be last.

Just my thoughts.

I just finished my application.

I had already bought the license so all said and done......$$$

I dumped $144.50 for the license.....online fees ect...

I did across the board application-----all species....(with my points!! I had to!)

So it was $90.00.....with no option for the Bighorn Rocky Ram point as NO Rocky tag is offered this year for non-ressy's...

All said and done-----$235.50......just to play...not draw! ha

I have already drawn Muleys and Antelope about every other year......( bow only) so I am not yapping.

I'm done with NV. I have 11 elk points but I'm not giving them my money anymore. If I draw its a $1200 tag. Hire an outfitter? Add $5K more. I've gotta pay my Cali property taxes.

You already got the answer on the fees. For me I drew Antelope with 7 points, elk with 9 and deer with 12. Three of the best hunts I have been on in my life. Quality animals - no people = Great Hunts.

Good info already given..

$150 for the license. Also, $10 per species and $3.50 app fee if you apply online (if I remember right) I am not sure if the $3.50 is per species (I believe it is) or for just the entire application.

Sometimes I wonder if its better to quit applying for all these states, expos.... etc and just buy a hunt????

I don't see how having a no points option for NR Rocky is jacked up. There will not be enough tags to have a NR Rocky hunt this year, and if there is not a hunt available, then you can't apply for a point. The good news is you get to keep the points you have regardless, and no one else can buy points either, so everyone is on the same level they have been. Because NV has bonus points and not preference points, it doesn't really make a difference, you still only get one number in the actual draw.

P.S. I just applied for everything except for deer as a resident today. Going to apply for deer with my dad. All told we will have about $160 in app fees this year, plus $120 for the hunting license and all the stamps by the end of the year.

For sure when ya look back over a couple years and see all the $$$$ that goes out with no tag in return!

One could get a real decent LO muley tag in Colo and decent LO Bull tag in N.Mex most every other year!

Brian, what is the image of at the bottom? Is that what the military call fruit salad? Did you serve in the military as of late? I know alot of questions. Just wanted to thank you for serving (if that is the case)and keeping our country and our way of live free.

mevertsen- i was just thinking that it might count towards a year of not applying and if you don't apply for so many years you lose the points, but in reading through the huntnevada website i don't think that will apply in this case. Also wasn't sure if the NR's and residents are in the same pool when we will be able to apply down the road, after they had the opportunity to buy the point...not that it matters w/ the number of sheep dying, might be awhile. Doesn't the higher number of bonus points only mean you might get a lower number in the draw?

From my understanding if you are applying for a tag and not just buying points then you can select the option to buy lisence if successful. You can't however just buy points without having a current lisence. Sorry I don't have any advice on the NE side of the state but NW I have a few ideas.

backpacker - yes, the more points you have means the more chances you get at getting a low number, and that determines the order of the applications in the draw. I have 5 points for desert and goat, 2 for antelope, 1 for rocky and cali, and none for deer or elk. The numbers will all be squared, plus one for the current year. So, I will have 26, 26, 5, 2, 2, 1, 1 chances at getting a low number in the draw for all of the species. But the person with no points could still draw number 1 of the 99 million possible numbers to draw. Make sense? Its like buying raffle tickets, and it seems that usually someone who bought only 1 ticket gets the best prize. I actually pulled that this year for spring turkey. There are a lot of people with a lot of points for turkey, and I drew my last choice with no points.

Looks like plenty of posts with correct fee's.... I'm in the same boat - fair amt of pref points but I'm starting to look at the fact that they give out just a handful of elk and other tags to NR's - not sure if I can justify the cost any more.... I could probably buy a decent landowner tag in some other state for what I've spent... May keep it up until I get a chance for a velvet muley since I can't hunt them early season in my home state....
