i need some good news about colorado deer units

i have been doing allot of research on colorado this year, it seems like all we hear is bad news. i know that the winter kill was bad in 08. now i am depressed, living in central idaho i think the deer hunting pretty poor around here. my question is for you colorado deer hunters is what unit should i apply for ? i have 6 nr points. i think a not so good hunt for you would be great for someone thats used to hunting around here in idaho. i would be quite happy with a 180 class buck or at least a fair chance at one with some hard hunting. any ideas on a unit or should i wait a few more years?

55 3rd
62 4th
22 4th
54 3rd
i understand these units and others arent what they were but it might seem to a guy that lives in wolf central might be pretty happy with what you experenced colorado hunters call not so good hunting. i am open to lower profile units too.Larry

22 is a good choice for 4th season. I've seen some monsters running around during that season, lots of public, plenty of deer and easy access. There is lots of oil field in 22 so thats something to remember. You can get away from it though and there is plenty of untracked ground. I haven't had much experience with the other units except for 44 and im not sure that there's much public down low there.

I am from Idaho and I hunted CO, unit 22 last year. Compared to Idaho, it was great. It was exciting to actually see a few quality bucks(almost everyday) and lots of medium - small ones. It was not easy by any means and we hunted our butts off also. It was a breath of fresh air and well worth it.

or maybe i should hold my points till next year. do you think the odds will be much better in 2011 because of the late hunt dates this year?

I decided that I was using my points this year. I think that the deer might be in for a hammering this year. I'm guessing that late season tags are going to be tougher to draw this year. I was planning on a 3rd season tag, that would have been a gimme last year, with my points. I'm afraid my points won't draw it this year, so I'm applying for a 2nd. season tag in a unit that is prob. a little better.
I think odds will get better in 2011. But I also think the mature bucks will be harder to come by.

Seems to me if you put in for a unit, and don't get drawn, then you ARE holding points until next year. And if you DO get drawn, the dates are better. Either way, you win.
