My dad always talks about the good old days of deer hunting when you had a chance at a big buck with an OTC tag. Anyways my grandpa shot some huge bucks back in his day and here is the biggest one that we still have. It scored 267 5/8 and he shot it in 1949. Lets see some pictures of some big old time bucks.

You don't hardly ever see them like that nowdays, big mass, must be Idaho, in the past that was an amazing state for producing big heavy horned deer.

It was actually a Utah buck. It was not a huge deal to my grandpa. He put it on a board and hung it on his wall. He actually cut one of the drop tines off because it rubbed on the wall. We had it put back on when we finally had it mounted for my dad a couple years ago.

Here is one shot in co. in 1938 he scores 240+, I bought him at a flea mkt.. I just had him remounted and will post pic soon.

If you don't mind, how much does someone pay for antlers like that...? And that second one has got to be 240"...

Hawkeye,

My dad has told me the story before, but i don't remember exactly how it all went down. So I will talk to him tonight and will tell you the whole story

I pd $325 for the 1st and $110 for the other.. I am not good with scoring and even worse with NT. I tried awhile back and was not sure where to take one of the measurements and came up a little over 220". The 1st one was scored at 240 4/8 and with my eyes I think the 1st is bigger but with substractions maybe they are close, I don't know .. To give you guys a starting point it's widest point outside is 28 3/8" .. Thanks

Here is decent buck from 1926.

Harry that a lot of bone on 3 sets.

Harry, how much did you pay for the Chips Lake repo? The world record Chips Lake buck is my 2nd favorite behind the Mundy buck. Always nice to see some HODAD mounts.

Those aren't my reproductions.
I just got to hold the real ones.
The top buck in my pics is the world record N/T @ 355.
The next one is "The Bannister Buck" @ 343 and the bottom buck from is over 300, but I can't remember the exact score.
Over a thousand inches of antler on just three bucks.

TATER23 I remember delivering a pkg to your dads house......and saying WOW!! Where did that buck come from? Sorry but the picture doesn't do justice to the mass this buck actually has. That thing needs to go to an expo!

That is one helluva buck tater.
Congrats to Grandpa.

Here is a slug from Idaho.
Don't remember much about it other than it was such a toad.
Pics don't do it justice.

Utahelk1 you are exactly right, the picture does not do the buck justice. It has incredible mass and it is also hard to see all the points. It actually has 23 scorable points on one side and 19 on the other. Their are ones off the back and around the base that you can't see. We have looked a little bit into putting it in cabelas, but we do not know how to put it in any expos. If anyone can tell me how that works then i would appreciate it. By the way i think i remember when you stopped by the house.

Hawkeye,
I asked my dad the story about the buck and it turns out he does not really know the whole story either. He was born around the time his dad shot the buck and he was jsut used to the buck hanging in their house. He never really asked his dad the story before he died. It is to bad, i can only imagine the story of coming up on a buck like that. I don't know what i would do.

Heres a buck my uncle killed in 1968 in eastern nevada. This was his first buck ever and with a recurve. It is a 8x6 that nets 228 p&y. I've posted the black and white pic before but I was able to get a couple photos of it over the weeked hanging up at the RMEF Dinner in Ely. Sad thing was this buck sat in the McGill Club bar for ages and then was placed on top of a water heater for quite some time before it was ever scored.

My dad shot this deer on the right in 1981. I think it scored around 194, but I am not sure. He never had it officially scored.

I have seen that buck before only it was not mounted. I remember thinking that it was one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen, and with a score like that I can see why I still remember it. If I recall it hung in your living room for a long time. Good call on getting it mounted.

Here is a pretty fair typical my dad took from the Oquirrh's sometime in the 50's. The head was stolen off the back portch not long after this pic...sad.

This is a picture of four bucks killed by my Dad and Grandpa in Utah
5282cropper_deer.jpg

These two bucks were killed on the Paunsaugunt the one on the left is 34" the other is 31"

The buck on the left of this picture was killed on the Bumblebee in Southern Utah and the other in an area known to locals as Twin Peaks
4453cropper_deer_3.jpg

The twin peaks buck on the far right scored 188 none of the other bucks were scored. I am not sure if either of the bucks on the Paunsaugunt would go over 200" the one on the right might but not sure.

Hey heartshot I was wondering if you could please tell me where you got that information about that rack? I have tried numerous times to find information on it. If there is some way you could post a closer up pic of the article it would be greatly appreciated. Just can't make out the words hahah

That is the Dewdney Buck. Currently ranked #2 All Time B&C. Intial entry score was 380. At the Panel, 3 teams couldn't come up with the same number. They ran out of time and settled on 339 2/8. As far as I know it is still owned by Hollinger & Howard.

Here is one taken in 1969 in Slim Buttes of South Dakota...He is a 7X9, double drop tine on right side, had a matching single drop tine on left main beam but was broken off after it was harvested. 30 inch inside spread, 35 inch outside spread..never had a tape put to it...any guesses as to what he'd go? I think over 200, but maybe not...If you are a collector, it is for sale
