Colorado 2009 deer/elk

I only had two days to hunt unit 12 during the 3rd season in 2009 (the last two days). Took the elk at noon on Thursday and the 25" buck right before dark on Friday. Dropped the deer off at Brothers in Craig at 8pm that night and they had it ready for me the next morning (had to add dry ice to freeze it) along with my elk. Drove five hours back to Salt Lake City and was on a plane at 5pm heading home that night. Not too bad for a two day hunt. Saw plenty of elk, but the deer were hard to find. My buck was with a better 4 point, but he was only 3 1/2 years old and has great potential. So I took the older deer with worse genetics.

Also included a picture of a nice buck we saw in Unit 3 while driving to the airport Saturday morning.

Congrats. Can't complian about that success on a two day hunt. Most would be happy with that on a seven-nine day hunt. Thanks for sharing.

Great animals. Congratulations.

How was the weather and hunting pressure?

My hunting spot is so secret, not even the elk have found it yet.

The weather was terribly warm (again). I saw several hunters road hunting and a couple on the neighboring property, but very little shooting. Most hunters in the area had already headed home. I was on private property and had to wait until Thursday because there was a group of six hunters before me that had scheduled a five day hunt (they took three elk and one deer). The later dates this year will help, but too much snow may lead to a deer slaughter.

Very nice photos......WELCOME to MonsterMuleys. We look forward to your posts.
