Back in 1984 I was sitting at home watching the Monday night football game Denver was playing at home it was snowing really bad they were saying it was the storm of the decade I called my hunting buddy Ed told him we need to get to Colorado now. We loaded up our hunting gear and were on the road to Colorado; this was back when you could buy your tags over the counter.

We headed to our old hunting camp in unit 70, opening morning we went in different directions we did not kill anything and the weather turned hot. Day two was the same we seen a lot of bucks but nothing we wanted, but by day three most of the snow was gone we did end up killing two bucks. Ed killed a 22 inch 3x3 and my 24 inch 4x4. I shot my buck late in the evening I dressed it out left it for the night and the next morning we headed back with the horses, on the pack out is when I found this lion kill buck.

I kept this dead head around the house for over 20 years mostly as a conversation piece. My taxi buddy talked me in to mounting it. I told him to make me proud and he damn sure did. Taxidermy work done by lifelike-taxidermy.com operated by Kurt Santoro, and is based out of Madera, California

You know, I have seen a lot of mounts in my life, but that lion kill has to be my favorite. What an incredible job.

Foothills,
Yes Kurt did that one also, there are some pics of it from a previous post here on M M.I don't know how to go retrieve for you.

Thanks

Certainly and interesting story and a unique mount - great taxi work for sure, it looks great. Curious though - what is that pose and what action is that simulating?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-06-10 AT 06:35PM (MST)[p]HomerJ,
Not 100% sure,if I remember right,Kurt cut up and pieced together a couple different forms.Don't think this form is sold by a taxi dist.As for the action, the buck is rubbing his antlers in the brush getting ready for the rut.

4000fps,Kurt does that on some of his work, just trying to get as much realism out of a dead animal as possible. Most bucks are blown and going when thier hooked up on a old juniper or ceader, probably like you when your gonads kick in.
Thanks,Jim
