LAST EDITED ON May-02-10 AT 11:22PM (MST)[p]You people need to make Don start putting some money where it WILL count....pretty soon the wolves will decimate my state of Montana and their elk/deer pops...and Idaho and Wyoming...they must go somewhere for food and that is Utardia and Colorado..pretty soon your UDWR managers will care about more about wolves than their precious governor and expo tags...Wolves are comming to your state beleive it or not due to the DC Aholes who have never been out west.

I'd wager that Don's little pinky finger has done more for getting the wolves in check than you have. What have you done for the fight?

Shotgun,

You must not know Dan and SFW's record against wolves.

I agree. They are THE treat. Huntin fool had a few good articles also in their last issue. RMEF is finally changing course. Don is working with RMEF and other groups as well. He is a git r dun type guy for sure.
Were glad some are fighting the wars.

Are you in the fight?

Convenient, MT is now managing wolves at a somewhat sustainable level, and Peay decides that it's now time to rally the troops and put his name all over it.

Where were you ten years ago when you could've actually done something?

No thanks, stay in Utah Don.

the rocky mountain elk foundation is on top of things in your state and the wolves will be put under check in the near future.

SFW's riding this wolf story like a five dollar whore.

Don was up here a couple weeks ago speaking to a group of ranchers and outfitters about how he's going to come and 'stop the wolf reintroduction and save our wildlife herds'.

Not sure how he's planning on stopping something that took place over fifteen years ago.

I live in Idaho and have seen the utter destruction of certain elk herds and also the moose. It is just unbelievable. I hunted my arse off for a wolf but was unsuccessful. We appreciate all help but unfortunately it is about 5 yrs too late. I had a candid conversation with a regional fish and game manager a few months ago and he is pretty pessimistic about whether or not the wolves will ever be controlled to a point were it even makes a differences. I was speechless when I heard that. Utah and Colorado better pray that wolf packs do not get established in their states.

So what exactly has Don Peay and SFW done about the wolf threat in the various states? Can't seem to find any info on what exactly they have accomplished. Anyone point me in the right direction?

I can't point you to any published evidence, but I can say that Don is buddies with many polititions and folks in many agencies and what he does is talk....lobby. That IS what Don does. In the end, his job is to convince decision makers to side with sportsmen.

Who else is doing it?

Who else is doing something? Here are just a few. It sure is tough to find anything in print for SFW... I really like to know where my money is going when I contribute to wildlife organizations, so that makes it tough.

Boone and Crockett Club, Campfire Club of America,
Congressional Sportsmen?s Foundation, Conservation Force,
Dallas Safari Club Foundation for North American Wild Sheep,,
Houston Safari Club, Mule Deer Foundation,
National Shooting Sports Foundation, National Trappers Association,
National Wild Turkey Federation, Pope & Young Club,
Quality Deer Management Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation,
Ruffed Grouse Society, Safari Club International,
Sand County Foundation, Texas Wildlife Association,
Wildlife Management Institute

Where was this lobbying fifteen years ago?

The wolves are here, and nobody that Don Peay takes golfing is going to do a damn thing about it. Sportsman missed the boat on stopping the reintroduction, and all we can do is manage the population like we do every other big game animal, which mtfwp did last year even without the help of SFW.

If he 'lobbies' Debbie Barrett out of office prematurely, and gets rid of the Elk Management Plan, then I'll be on board. Until then I'll continue supporting the Montana conservation groups that have been in this from the get go, and aren't taking advantage of the uneducated minority, in order to line their wallets.

I'm sure Don Peay is a powerful guy and a great asset to the sportsman. But you tell me how he is going to circumvent the Endangered Species Act. The ESA is not a question, it is a statement of what will be done. It's not based on threats of lawsuits, or how much power or money Don Peay has.

Until you repeal or modify the ESA, you're just blowing smoke. We will probably argue for decades over how many wolves are enough. Big deal! We already know how many is too many. We reached it years ago.

LAST EDITED ON May-06-10 AT 11:33AM (MST)[p]I think the very MOST important thing is that sportsman need to stand together. It should not matter who is doing what. If we can not work together as sportsman, hunters, ranchers, outfitters or whom ever we have already lost. Don is doing his best with what he is good at and we should all stand behind him weather you like him or SFW. We are lucky to have someone like Don.

Ask yourself what have you done?? If the answer is nothing then you had better wake up........

I caught wind not to long ago about a bill that is in the process in Utah that will make it illegal for a Wolf to be in Utah North of I70. This will essentially makes wolves a shoot on sight mentality. I'm not sure if this is true but hope that it is.

I challenge everyone who gives a "SH_T" about hunting for yourself or future generations to put your money and mouth where it counts. Go and join this group www.biggameforever.org. It's only for fighting the wolf battle.

I just gave $1000.00 for membership. Ask yourself are you willing to step up!!

Randy, You keep asking where Don was 15 years ago, well I am pretty sure that Don and SFW was strictly a Utah based Group, so you cant blame him for not being there if SFW didnt exstend into other states such as Montana.

Also why all the hostillity towards someone who is obviously trying to help, you said that you would continue to support your groups there in Montana who have been there from the get go, GOOD was Don (or anyone for that matter) telling you not to, I really dont see what the problem is here, unless you belive that what Don is doing will hurt the cause there is no reason for you to come on here and bad mouth him. I know that SFW has been focused on keeping wolves out of Utah for at least 5 years and probly longetr than that.

My point is as someone stated earlyer, we should all stand together on this instead of trying to tear eachother appart, the more we get our voice out there the better it will be for all of us.

We should support any group that is fighting for us.

SFW is a big group that speaks for alot of people witch makes it a BIG voice for sportsman, it dose not hurt to have them helping.

I think Don Peay is on the right course. He's trying to increase awareness about the wolves and the threat they pose to western wildlife. It's a noble cause that he's fighting for. We as Sportsman can't expect one person to change the world overnight. At least he's helping the initiative, now as avid hunters and outdoorsman, our voice can be heard.

We all need to get on this band wagon and keep it rolling, or else our heritage will be lost. These animals are endangering other animals, animals that we all love. We need to get behind this cause and make something happen. Or we all suffer a great loss. It's a joint effort to make this happen, Don can't do it all by himself.

That's my two cents...and my opinion

WYNONTYPICAL - Thanks for letting us know about the www.biggameforever.org site.

I just made a small contribution. If all 7000 MM members and another 10,000 MM readers could see their way clear to "give a little" we could have our " 2 cents" count toward having wolves managed so they do not destroy our wildlife treasures.

It will take a war chest to win this fight. Those of us opposed to using conservation tags to raise money now have a venue to donate without impacting hunter opportunity.

Small amounts from large numbers of folks can trump the "hollywood millions"! Lets let them hear our voices for a change.

When I find a group and its partners that I trust with my time, money and effort and they have complete transperancy I will give it and give it freely. Until then I will continue to fight the battle the way I think is best.

Best wishes to all who fight the battle wether it be with this group, another group or behind closed doors.

When you find that group TA, let us all know, we'll send them a few bucks too. It's going to take all hands. Losing this one is not an option. No one can afford to set this one out.
