Paunsaguant Archery

Hey everyone just wondering if I could get a little info on Paunsaguant. I drew out for an archery tag and was wondering when the best time to start scouting would be. I am sure the deer are probably already heading back to the top but would hate to drive down and be a little early. Any help would be appreciated.

Congrats on a great tag. I would start scouting July 1st on top of the plateau. From July 1st until mid-August you should see plenty of nice bucks. Feel free to pm me if you have any additional questions and good luck. That is a great tag and some beautiful country.

I archery hunted the Paunsaugunt in 2003 and made several scouting trips in the latter part of July. I like that timing mainly because antler growth is far enough along to get a good feel for size of bucks in the area.

That was one of the funnest hunts I have ever been on - I saw some great bucks, took a nice buck on the 5th day of my hunt, and the scenery is some of the most amazing you will find anywhere.

Good luck on your hunt and pm me if you have any questions on general areas to scout or on the hunt.

Best of luck!!

Thanks for the information. We have hunted the unit multiple times with the rifle tags but were very lucky this year to draw the archery. I look forward to spending my vacation days running around the hills. You have any advice on any particular areas to start scouting. Thanks again

Wayner,
Congrats on a great tag. I drew it a couple of years ago. Hawkeye and others helped me out and I had a great hunt. I'll PM you with some specifics.

I hunted Pauns Archery in 07..

If I were you, I'd spend my time down low in the Cedars and sage.. That's where the big boys are, not up top..

My 2 cents..
