I haven't hunted region D in about 20 years. I have a cousin who is a taxidermist in Casper, and we used to hunt in the Muddy Mtn and Bates Trail areas of region D. I know there is a lot of CWD in the area and not many people request the area, now.Just curious about the muley hunting in the region, especially area 66.Seems to me if the hunting pressure is decreased due to CWD, there may be some good bucks around.

i hunted unit 66 two years ago and the deer on public land was down alot from years ago.I only saw two small bucks in 8 days of hunting.

From a residents point of view the deer herd has had its ups and downs. After the hard winter we had two winters ago its going to be a little bit before things bounce back to normal. As for the bucks they are few and far between. But if you do your stuff and find a good spot you are more likely to see what you want than just guessing. I am talking about the southern part of the region D. I have only lion hunted and drove throught the north part of it. Hope it helps.

CWD has had no impact on 66's hunting pressure. Look at the G&F website. Something like a 1000 people a year hunt 66. If yer a 2 pt buck in 66, somebody is gonna blast you. Half of Casper is up there on opening day in a typical year. I've been arguing with the G&F for years to go limited quota to bring back some quality. 66 serves two purposes according to a warden I talked with one time. It's a cash cow for the G&F and it gives every guy who wants to take his kid out and give them a chance to shoot something...

cwd, hunting, lions, all have kept the deer down the range has changed to be better for elk and that too has been detrimental to the deer.
on the second range there are deer but on the first range the deer need to be listed as limited quota
