Drew an Idaho super tag deer hunt this year. I am an Idaho resident that loves to hunt. I have a few ideas on some units to hunt, but am looking for some more info from the mm forums! Please let me know on units or areas in 45 or 52 or late 54 or 40 or 11. Like I said I have ideas on units but don't know them very well.

From what some guys say don't shoot unless it is over 200 inches. I wouldn't need one to be that big but others do. Ron

You lucky dawg!!! Awesome! 45 is a good place to start your scouting I think.

how many chances did you buy (if you don't mind me ask'in) I want to know if my six chances is worth the effort. Maybe we'll see ya in 45, we got 3 rifle tags.

I would take a hard look at the early hunt in unit 55.

Great opportunity for a huge velvet muley. Starts in mid August.

Late hunts in 45 are always a good bet.

I actually bought $150 worth. Just really a shot in the dark. I will look into the early 55 hunt. My father drew 54 oct. tag first tag in 25 years for him so I want to go on that. Does anyone have any info on the late 54 55 hunts? Love the help the monstermuley comm. has given me.

what part of the state do you live in? Any thought on the late hunt in 69? There have been some great sheds the last few years. Are there any more islands in Hagerman?

I live in Wilder. I have looked at 69. Don't have a clue about that unit either. I honestly don't see any late hunts in the 45 unit. I will do some research on 69 thanks.

Jason,

There hasn't been late hunts in 45 since 06'. Don't worry your not missing anything. Good luck with your hunt! Some people have know idea what is going on in their back yard, if you know what I mean.

Best Regards

Thanks guys, I am so thankful for all the help. I drew 45 when I was 16 when they only gave 10 tags out. Man if I knew then what I know now, Right? Anyway I am holding out for a nontyp but we will see. If anyone has any help I am listening.....

O.K then how about the 10/15 to 10/31 hunt in unit 45. Since it is after the muzz hunt I guess that would make it the "late" hunt?

The hunt in 55 ends 10/31. There was at one time a Dec archery hunt in the unit but I don't know if its there or not. The Nov hunt in 54 would be a good one, but I don't know how many truley big bucks live in that country.

Unit 69 is weather dependent. Quality/quantity is not what it used to be there but I have seen some decent bucks come out of the high country there recently.

Hunted 54 late last year for 12 days. Have hunted it archery numerous years. Very very disappointed last year in the late hunt. Seen 2 nice bucks that got shot. We hunted hard all 12 days that we had to hunt, and seen tons and tons of big 2 points, 2x3, and big 3's. Seen only a totally of 3 straight four points. One of which we killed. Would be a total last option if I had a super tag. I would look to the 44 hunt, now that they have changed the dates. A better chance to get on good bucks before the migration starts.

Yeah I think it sounds like there are some other units that I am going to look at first. I do have a buck spotted that is a pig but I have to try with my bow so we will see. I'll keep ya'll posted and let me know if anyone sees a non typ for me......

there is a late archery hunt in 55. i would focus on 45 if it were me. who cares if you cant hunt it in november. you will find smoker bucks in october too. just put in the hours and glass time. good luck.

Always heard Southeast Idaho down around Mt. Peillier, Units 69, 73,74,use to be great. I haven't hunted Idaho for a few years but a good friend of my brothers use to guide in those units. Just a suggestion..Good luck.

montpelier has kinda been over run and the areas around there the big bucks are kind of a rarity, i would look a little closer to were you live hunted archery down there two years ago and there was some monsters. Just a suggestion good luck, and be sure and post some pics

I would focus on hunts that have trophy quality like 44 and 45 that you can scout for bucks that will be there when that season opens. Most of the late Nov hunts you will rely on weather and the bucks will be migrating in. Unit 44 and unit 45 can benefit from migration also, but I believe you can find some big bucks that live there year round. As these hunts close if you have not found what you want you can move to the later hunts like 40 and 54.

Remember Unit 44 will have all the deer blow out with a good storm. I think the horn growth will be good again this year with the late spring, though I have not been scouting this year so maybe someone like Steve who scouts a lot can confirm that.

I had one of these tags the first year.
Hunted unit 45 in November and took a 192 buck.
It is not the slam dunk people make it out to be, you still have to hunt hard and the weather can double cross you and cut your time short...mud.
With the new earlier dates you will need some snow to really bring them into that area in numbers.
