How does the heat effect the deer when it is very hot? Do they come out early in the evening or do they wait till it cools off. I do know they clear from the fields early in the morning if it starts out being a warm day. They head for the deep shaded areas. Some help on their habits.

They seek out shade and will try to stay in it all day. I've seen a big group of deer go from one shady spot to another and try thier darndest not to let the sun touch them. fatrooster.

You answered your own question Nebo... With most good bucks, you usually have about a 20-30 minute window at the start and end to each day... If you hunt where you can spot them, let them bed, and stalk in on them, you will have more excitement throughout the day.
Still hunting, moving down a mountainside through thick cover, coming in above bedded bucks, has produced some luck for me, but without watching deer enter an area like that, it is a crap shoot...
Also, every year, and everywhere I hunt, it's worth being out and about early afternoon, like 1pm. I always see deer, including good bucks, up and about at this time, feeding or just moving around to find more shade...

Both right.I would add that the more time you spend out there(even mid-day)the more your odds increase of being there when he shows himself. Also,it's been my experience that bucks are more active during the full moon and new moon phases;especially during midday on the full moon.No matter how hot! Many people don't believe in that, but I have seen it too often to discount the theory.Next time you see a good buck feeding during the heat of the day, check the moon phase just for giggles.Besides, what could it hurt to spend the entire day out there?Hunting season is too short to spend it in camp sleeping!

I hunted muleys for many years and have taken many good bucks with a bow. It still amazes after all the time I spend in the field that I still keep learning how the operate. I can go for weeks without finding where they are at and then things change again. Thanks
