Would you shoot him with a Nevada muzzy tag?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-10 AT 05:39PM (MST)[p]Is that 131? If it is you may want to keep looking for a day or two. That is an awesome area. Thats still a great looking deer and may get a bit bigger, but I would have him as a backup buck.

i would with a bow. good mass. pretty good height. pretty nice buck overall.

If you are in a very good unit I would hold out on opener day, unless scouting did not produce anything better.

Most important is does that buck make you happy!! If it does pull the trigger and don't second guess yourself.

Good luck on the hunt.

If he's the best you've found in your scouting, then probably. But, if you've done very little scouting and have killed a few better bucks in your time, then maybe hold off and look for better. If you've seen bigger scouting, then look for the bigger buck(s).
Thanks for sharing the pic. Fun for us to see.

With a Bow? Definitely!! With a Smokepole, I would hold off until maybe the last 2 days of the hunt in case I see something bigger. Happy Hunting. Post a pic of him once you have him on the ground.

I passed up a few bucks like this one on my outa state trip last year. A couple, according to my partner, were probably a bit better but to my eye, they were this class of buck. I always have said that these are not the kind of bucks that i want to see. Depends on the angle and situation that you first see them but they can fool you, they're really tough to pass up!! I ended up taking one not much bigger but i had looked over a lot of bucks and it was time to come on back home.

This year, i'll be hunting the foothills of Northern Calif. You can safely bet that this would be a smoker buck in that country. I'd pop him without any hesitation.

If you have to ask the question, then I'd say no because you are not feeling excited over this caliber of buck for this tag.

I don't know anything about NV,but I heard there are some Toads in that neck of the woods.Correct?

I personally would hold off,(I have a 190 class already)front forks are too weak and they count for alot of the scoring according to Mike Eastman.I really don't have that much experience, just my thoughts.

It depends on your situation if that's what the real question is?

But as the question stands "Would you(meaning me)shoot him" my answer would NO.It would be a last day option for me and mainly because I wanted deer meat.Need to fill the freezer for the winter.

I would surely have the deer mounted if I harvested him!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-31-10 AT 06:25PM (MST)[p]No I wouldn't shoot him with a muzzy tag, I'd probably use my 50 cal Thompson Center to shoot him with. Then I'd wrap that muzzy tag around his antlers. I had to be a smart a$$ on that one.

As the opening day eastern sunlight begins to eat away the vanishing stars and that bucks antlers are visible in the dimmly lit shadows ... Boom ... waits for smoke to clear only to find a nice buck down, waiting to be caped, boned, and packed out.

I have one hanging on the wall that is bigger score wise, but I would not hesitate to give him your buck as someone to hang with (pun intended).

Someone above mentioned who cares what we would do. What would that buck do to your adrenaline, goal realization, or sense of hunting accomplishment? That's all that matters. Best of luck to you.
