Scouting trip

Went out this weekend and did some scouting. Did not see a single deer, of course the kids were with me so I didn't figure on being able to see any. Did find a lot of sign but one caught my eye more than any other. I found a fresh tree rub, I mean fresh. Velvet on the ground, a little blood on the tree, and hair all over the place. From the look of the tracks he was a heavy bodied deer but the tree was small, not sure that makes a difference though. Thought it was odd he was rubbing already. Anyone else seeing this in CO or anywhere else for that matter?

It was probably an elk.

I'm pretty certain it was a muley, the hair and the tracks left in that spot were deer tracks. I guess an elk could have rubbed it then a deer came through the same spot and was checking out the rub.

Almost too early for bulls too, but I'm sure there's some that have started rubbing around the time you where out.

Me and a friend have seen quite a few bulls that are hard horned here in AZ. The wierd thing is they are between 260 and 310. Anything bigger or smaller are still velvet....... kinda odd.....
