"13a 13b what are the differences??"
I have enough resident points where I have very high odds of being drawn for archery 13b almost 100%, but about 50% for 13a what is the difference, and is 13a so much better that I should wait? I have killed some great bucks, but I would work my ass of to be able to kill a strip giant and I have the points to get drawn finally, is there that much of a differnce in 13a vs 13b?
Tom

I wrote the above and got TONS of good advice, I had a feeling I would draw and I did!! I have just got back from spending 8 days on the strip. Tons of Hot days and short nights. there are truly some giants there, but somehow or another this hunting fanatic, got lucky, and there is one less big buck there.

Take a look at the length of his body and then the width of his rack for some respective on how WIDE this buck is, this is just his main frame no cheaters for 36 inches!

This is exactly how we found the broad-head in the buck while gutting him.

Great Buck and a great shot.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

Great buck! Great shot! Nice to see someone with a ear to ear smile as well. You obviously worked for it.

Congrats man! Outstanding trophy and shot placement! I just bought my first bow, truly an inspiration to us future archery hunters! The picture of the arrow/heart is priceless!

Thanks for all of the nice comments. I would be inconsiderate and foolish if I didn't thank my two nephews who were with me the entire time!! 8 days away from thier families and friends.

But most of all I would like to thank Brec Bundy!! This guy knows the strip, and truly had us on some Monster deer the entire time. He had to go back into town on Sunday, and was not able to be with us when we killed Wednesday night. But if it wasn't for him and his hard work, and knowledge, I know I would of not been able to kill that monster. He was not only a good guide, but he was a good guy. Considerate, and nice...almost to a fault. There were other guides/hunters on a lot of these same deer, and he stuck to his word, everytime, not all guides I saw on this trip did that. Karma is a two edged sword, and I know that Brec will ultimately, get the better part of that most every time. It was also one of the funnest camps I have ever been a part of!! Brec you are truly a great guy, thanks for helping me make one of my deer hunting dreams come true!!

OK, and you're right, Brec Bundy is one of the nicest guys around, and no doubt he knows the Strip area, both 13A and 13B.

Now were you hunting in 13A or 13b, that is the question. Don't need or want to know where in the unit, just what unit.

Thanks, and congrats on the awesome buck!

SWEET BUCK!! Love the width - that is the buck I have been seeing in my dreams since I was 11! That pic of the heart is one of the coolest pics ever posted here. Great shot man! Thanks for sharing your success with us!

Awesome!

WOW! Awesome buck and unbelievable pic of the shot! Man, that buck is friggin' amazing! I love big typicals and this buck is definitely one of my fav's. Not that it matters (because no one in their right mind would hesitate to shoot that buck), but have you had a chance to put a tape on him and see what he scores? Just curious...

Congrats on the trophy of a lifetime!

He has been scored twice now, and both times we got over 200 inches, about 205 depending on inside spread, even with the short g2s, he has over 42 inches of mass and 16 inch g3s and 15 inch g4s. Big inside spread. I love him just the way he is, but if he had big g2s...but then again, I love what he is. I can't tell you how impressive he was on the hoof, he looked almost "cartoonish" on the hoof, he was SO WIDE!!! His mass goes all the way out on his main-beam, and he is so freaking wide. I have never seen a buck with such huge g3s, and did I mention he is so wide :)

LAST EDITED ON Aug-28-10 AT 11:26PM (MST)[p]I'd be interested in what a monster buck like that, without great g-2's, can score?? The fact that he is a true monster is awesome enough that he doesn't have to have a great score to go along but for future reference, it would be nice to know.

Congrats!!!

Edit: Thanks, i just saw the post you just put up about the score...monster Buck and Monster score!!! Very nice!

Joey

I think that buck is big enough to net 200 even with the short g2s. The front end on that buck alone would get him 90% of the way! He looks like hes 30+ inside and his beams could be close to that.

It really is cartoonish!

Congrats on a once-in-ten-lifteimes buck! And consider yourself lucky to have pulled a strip tag in what will likely be the BEST year ever up there.

Its freakishly good this year!

I know it's been stated a couple times already but thanks for smiling and looking like a hunter should after taking an amazing animal like that! It almost makes me laugh at all these pictures with hunters holding huge animals and yet their facial expressions look like they just had teeth pulled. Congrats on am awesome buck!!!

Did you take your tooth brush and whiteing kit with you and use them before the photo ? I bet your smile muscles are sore.
Great buck even with weak backs. I love those wide bucks!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-29-10 AT 05:28PM (MST)[p]Can the taxidermist do something to mount that heart ? That would make a cool coffie table mount .

Thats a great question, I was thinking the same thing. Does anybody out there know if there is a way to perserve that I would love to have it in my office!! I have it in the freezer now.

I think he's a little too wide to do the classic "bow on the horns" picture! I like how the main beams are just as wide as the rest of the rack. one of these years i will draw that tag. congrats on a great buck!

Congrats on a WHOPPER of a buck! What a monster. I'll bet it was quite the rush to be 20 yards from that thing!

I would also add to what's been said about Brec Bundy. From what I know of him, he's a great guy. His clients seem to be hammering some huge bucks the past few years. He certainly gets it done.

Huntnhard,

I can help you out with the heart preservation. I need to talk to you about your mount too. Please give me a call,
Thanks,
Travis

freeze dry the heart and the horns also. Freeze dry makes the velvet look the best.

Congrats on an awesome buck. After all the bs round this joint lately it is refreshing to hear your story.

I love wide bucks (no surprise) but I also like those big bucks with short G2's...I think it adds charecter and looks cool.

What a fantastic Buck, fantastic story etc..... About the heart, sure hope you can preserve it........Also, great call on getting help from a guide who knows the unit.......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-10 AT 12:33PM (MST)[p]Travis may already have you hooked up on the heart, but instead of freeze drying.............I think I would go with a cast heart that has the arrow inserted through it. A taxi can cast the real heart that you have and with good air brush skills can match the photo you have of the heart and you won't have that mass of freeze dried muscle to worry about. Just an opinion.

Oh yeah............awesome buck! Congrats!

That is an amazing buck, even more impressive in the velvet.
I bet your heart skipped a beat when you first saw him.
Congrats! Great work on the pictures.

Huntnhard32;

I just came into town for a couple of days, to visit my wife,

and my gawd, this is what I see. I will have spent a month on

13B, looking for big bucks, to help my friends.

Man, you and Brec Bundy, did yourselfs proud !!!!!

Its already been said , but that is a fantastic buck.

Brec is one of the good guides, and from what I here, a great

guy , also.

I have not had the pleasure to meet Brec Bundy, but hope to

soon.

You two guys, make the rest of us , out there looking for MR.

BIG , look like amatures.

I hate to say it, but I am jealous as he!!

Congrates on a fantastic buck, and I am very well aware, that

any buck, but particularry, a buck of that caliber, is VERY

hard to see, and then get it killed, thats is a real hard thing

to do!!!

Again, congrates to you and your guide Brec Bundy.

I am just green with envy, but I will live thru it.

Steve Cheuvront

How many "congrats" to you need? Here's one more for you. That buck is a stud. And you said it right when you said it looked cartoonish. That is the kind of buck you see on DVD's walking away from you having to tip his head one way as he passes a manzanita cuz he's so damn wide! Helluva buck and CONGRATULATIONS!!

Holy Moses that thing is awesome...I could stare at that thing for days! Good one!

Great buck! as for preserving the heart, you could use formaldehyde or another type of embalming fluid. You may have seen it in science class in a jar w/ dead frogs, cats, body parts, etc. Just an idea.

Wow!! That is a buck that dreams are made of. Guess you can scratch monster buck off your bucket list.
Good job..

A little weak in the back for my taste, but big enough in the front to make up for it :) CONGRATS on the buck of a lifetime

LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-10 AT 02:31PM (MST)[p]Congrats on a great buck. In regards to preserving the heart there is a process called plastination, I am sure it is very expensive but would be worth looking into. I live in Utah and went to an exhibit that was here for a few months called Body Worlds, they use this process to preserve humans and animals for display. Here is the link

That is an amazing buck!! I cannot get over how wide and tall that thing is!!! MONSTER MULEY for sure!!!! Congrats.

Josh

Congratulations on a rare trophy taken on an even more rare opportunity. That is a special animal from a special place.

I hunted unit 13A on the Arizona Strip with Brec Bundy in '05 and he is the reason I was successful on a 35" wide brute which turned out to be the largest buck taken on the unit that year.

You can see this and many other nice bucks that Brec's clients have harvested on his website.
