Idaho General Season 12 y/o first deer hunt

I am taking my 12 year old son to Idaho for his first deer hunt. I am thinking of the area around copper basin and pioneer mountains in area 50 and part of 36a. He is a good hiker and we plan on putting a few miles between us and the road. Is this a waste of time there?

At 61 year old, I'll say these trips are not about the hunting but about spending time with family and friends. That said you picked a reasonably good area for a deer hunt. Starhope canyon and associated ridges have held good deer populations in the past. Good Luck
