It was a surprise to find out that my father and I had drawn a limited entry book cliffs archery deer tags this year instead of the Rocky mtn goat tag that I thought was a sure thing. Due to health reasons my father and long time huntin pard was unable to be with me on the hunt.

Countless hours of practicing with a new Hoyt Maxxis 35 proved to be just the ticket when the opportunity of a lifetime presented itself. Days 1 and 2 on opening weekend were nothing short of amazing as I found myself looking over numerous bucks trying to decide how long I would hold out for mister big. Being an official Pope and Young measurer I found myself being very critical and selective. This also allowed me to enjoy a wonderful time of year on the mountain. Monday morning looked to be less than a stellar day due to the full moon that was taking place.

I was soon proven wrong when I spotted a huge buck off in the pinions and junipers. I knew without binoculars that this was the buck I was after. A short stalk later and I found my pins were settled on the buck that I hoped I would be able place my tag on. The arrow found its mark and a short time later my friend, Craig and I were staring at my dream buck. My Hoyt and Axis arrow had taken care of business and the buck of my dreams was mine. This buck green scored 188 5/8 gross and net green scores 183 3/8 P&Y. My buck will be officially scored after the required 60 day drying period.

So Dad, this one's for you. Thanks for all the memories.

My daughter was also notified that she had finally drawn a Book cliffs rifle deer tag after putting in for 8 years. I'm sure I will find myself on the "Books" at least once more this fall.

I love hunting the books, and always smile when I hear people say there are no good deer out there. It's certainly not the Henry's, but good bucks are around, and that is one archery hunt that is about as fun as it gets. That is a great buck. Thanks for sharing

Oh ya!! That's a great buck. He will look real good on the wall.

That's a dandy buck. I have a friend that has a rifle tag down there this year. I'm sure he's looked at this thread. This is what you're after amigo!

Having spent a lot of time on the Book Cliff's this year scouting for my brother's elk tag and my Dad's deer tag, that is an EXCEPTIONAL buck for the Book Cliffs.

Big time congrats on a beautiful deer!!

My Dad has had 3 opportunities at a buck that is very similar in size to the one you killed, but has not sealed the deal yet. Heading back out on Wednesday to try again. Your pics keep the fire going. There are bucks out there in that size range, but they are not easy to find amidst all the 130-140 class deer, so to kill one with a bow is an accomplishment, no doubt.

Great Job!!

Great looking deer, I was wondering when we would see a few from the Books show up on here. I'm headed out this coming week end to start scouting for the muzzy hunt. I hope I'm lucky enough to find one of the same caliber. Congrats again.

Nice Buck. I saw a few just like that when I was out there a week or so ago. Horn growth was pretty good this year.

There are no big bucks in Utah! LOL

Congrats a handsome buck for sure. The symetry is awsesome! How many points did you have? Roadless or no?

I was on the roaded area but had spent some time in the roadless. He was just outside the roadless area. My father and I together averaged 6 points.
