I just got my nephew Gunner, the Mathews Mission, bow for his 14th birthday, he was shooting it all the time. From 12 arrows he was down to 2 1/2. He was getting way consistent. and purchased an over the archery tag here in AZ. He went with his Dad, Mark a couple of times, and was seeing does, but nothing to stock or get a shot at. We have a little 20 acres planted in alfalfa, on our land, every year we have several deer hitting it, we saw a couple of new bucks in the field last night and I decided to put up a blind while Gunner was at school and football practice. I picked a little spot about 150 yards from the field in some cedars, that seemed like one of their main corridors to the field. When gunner got home we hurredly got all of our stuff and headed to the blind, we sat in silence, as the sun set and darkness began to creep in around us. Gunner whispered as quietly as he could, how much time do we have left. I said if it is going to happen tonight it needs to happen in the next 5 minutes, although there may have been 15 minutes of shooting light, in the dark little pop up blind, pins were getting hard to see. Not a minute later, we heard steps, and this buck nervously rushed past our blind. I ranged him and whispered 41 yards. Gunner was already pulled back. I was so impressed, how he took an extra couple of seconds and didn't rush the shot. When he released I heard that unmistakable WHACk sound, I said you hit him, he was running fast and hard...Gunner and I did our best to keep our cool as we didn't see him go down, but we were FREAKING OUT!! We waited as long as we could and decided to come back with lights in an hour or so. We told everybody, and were just going crazy. No one could believe it and we got my son Joe, and Mark Gunners dad to track him up. After close to an hour we had found nothing no blood, no arrow, no nothing. We were thinking we may have to come back in the morning, when Mark yelled here is your deer!! We all went screaming over to where he was, ad there lay this beautiful buck! You would of thought we killed the world record with how much we were yelling!! Look at the shot Gunner put on this deer at 41 yards!!! That kid is a natural...I am so proud. I can honestly say I was almost as excited tonight as when I killed my Strip buck...almost. I am also glad he didn't kill himself on the 4 wheeler as he was so excited he ran into a big ditch and slammed his chest on the handle-bars, as he was rolling on the ground moaning, I snapped a picture to remember the occasion. GREAT JOB GUNNER, and congrats on an awesome 1st deer!!!!!!

gutted him and skinned him last night. Quartered him this morning!! Gunner is all smiles and a little sore! That three-wheeler deal gave him quite a bruise. I hope he is good for his football game!

Really nice forky and a great first buck! Good job Gunner! I'd like to see more kids taking a deer like that their first time.

Congrats to both of you.

The look on gunners face in the last two photo's is just priceless. What a wonderful time for the young man.

You guys have given a gift to each other that will last a lifetime. Great job to you both.

Gunner - If you play ball like you hunt, the other team better LOOK OUT!

Great shot. He looks very happy. I kind of had to laugh at the taking a photo of him rolling around on the ground. Hopefully you checked to makes sure he was alright first :).

I knew I forgot to do something, he is allright but he did miss his football game so it did hurt him. He is still all smiles about the deer, we cooked up some back-straps last night mmm mmm good!

Very nice buck, so now he has the same sickness you have Chasing Bucks with a bow, LOL good luck in the football games.
