LAST EDITED ON Sep-04-10 AT 08:58AM (MST)[p]Here's a couple pics of my Colorado archery buck I took this week. After four days of pretty crazy weather up at 12,000 feet, the skies cleared and we spent Wednesday afternoon stalking through some high and steep avalanche chutes. At 1:00 in the afternoon I spotted this buck bedded and was able to get within 50 yards to take the shot. The tracking job turned into working a grid pattern for hours, and I dont think I would have recovered this buck without my good friend Matt Bateman who made an unbelievable spot to find this buck dead up under a group of pines. Without Matt's help, I dont know if I would have recovered this buck. So big thanks to Matt for all of his help in finding my buck and big thanks to my good friend Brad Roberts to hunted with us the first five days. It was a great hunt!!! Thanks guys!

Man luckyshot I am impressed! Year after year, you and your hunting group lays down some monster bucks. Thanks for sharing and congrats

Way to go! A big ol velvet early season buck from the highcountry is just about as fun as it comes. Congrats!

>what unit did you get him
>from?

LOL. You haven't been here long, so I will fill you in: Not that much above timberline country in many units, so giving you the unit would narrow the area down a lot. If I told you I killed him in unit ABC, leaves a lot to the imagination. If I told you I killed him above timberline in unit ABC narrows it down a lot.

Would you post the spot you killed a good buck for 1000's of people to see and consider going there?

Even posting the actual unit if not in the high country would probably increase hunting some in that unit. Do you want more company when you have spent years finding a good spot?

it really does'nt matter what unit, i was just curios for the reason of i have hunted several different units in colorado and what i have learn is that colorado has the genetics to produce great bucks just about anywhere...anyways congrats on your archery buck!

Congrats! What a beauty of a buck.

I hate it when I wake up in the morning and Barack Obama is President.

Kip,

You continue to empress. I cant wait from year to year to see what you come out of the hills with next yet. Every years you show us why you are one of the best in the state.

Time to take some of your old town boys out with you and show us how it is done. I have now moved to Price, Ut and am much closer to you so now you have no excuse not to take me.

Congrats on the great buck again.

Jeff

Great Buck Kip!
You're about as dependable as they get when it comes to dropping the hammer on great bucks with your bow!

Kipper, way to go man!!! What a great buck!! and I'm sure you earned every bit of that big boy. 12000 feet that is ridiculous!!! When we got a picture text from you guys I knew it would be another pig. We were huntin whiteys and antelope in Montana when the picture came through, it was fun to see that big typical frame come up on my phone. Congrats to you, Matt and Brad you guys get it done in the high high country. There are not too many guys that can continually take dang good animals on DIY, public land hunts....no big money tags, no guides, just hard work, sweat and a drive most guys don't have. I love it!!!! Again way to go on another awesome buck Kip!!! WHOOOHOOO!!!!

Congratulations on a great buck! I had a friend who ran into you while scouting and I can say that if you can hunt in country rough enough to wear him out, you have earned it!

Way to take care of business year in and year out. Thats one hell of a mule deer!
