Utah General Archery Buck

I'm finally getting a little break from work so I figured I'd share a pic of the buck I was able to harvest with my bow on opening day. Spotted him early with a couple other bucks. I was up on a ridge and another hunter had spotted the deer and was trying to put a sneak on them. I watched him, hoping he would push them my way, but they spooked and ran about about a mile in the opposite direction and eventually bedded down in some thick cover. Didn't think i'd have much of a chance getting in on them especially since they had just been spooked, but I waited about an hour, got my landmarks and decided to give it a try. Lucky for me, after I stalked in, the bucks were still there and I had him walk out broadside at 20yds!

WOW! That's an excellent buck on any unit let alone a general tag! Way to go.

That a really nice looking buck.

WOW! That is as pretty as they come!

Just a question, did you shoot him in the front clavicle crease quartering towards you or just a little forward broadside? If broadside, how quick did he go down? I only ask because it seems that in front of the front leg is mainly brisket and bone, organs are directly behind the leg and back from there. I wonder for future reference if I ever hit forward like that

Congrats on a TOAD!

I hit one there in 2004, he was angled toward me and he was down in about 125 yards.

He was actually broadside facing to my right and one of the other bucks that was off to the left spotted my movement right when i was about to shoot. i worried that i hit him too far forward, but he started spraying blood immediately and the arrow went clean through. Nervous still about the shot, i held off for an hour before looking for him and he ended up being 50yds from where i shot him. Bled out so fast the trail looked like it was pouring out of him before he went down.

Awesome buck! All of these big velvet mulies are just killin me! Nice job.

Glad to see you decided to post a picture Phil. I need to come down and see it in person. Considering you seem to be killing bigger bucks each year, I might have to follow you around next year and take your leftovers.

Man! Who needs a spoon & knife with those forks! Amazing buck and congrats.
