Will I ever draw a tag on the Henrys?

Hey i have 4 deer points. And i am just wondering if there is even a chance that i will draw a henrys tag before I am old and wrinkly? I am 17 now and i would definitely take an archery tag. But i am just wondering if there are going to be so many people that have max points when i get there, that i will never draw. What do you think?

I drew the rifle tag this year with 2 pts. Someone draws it every year with just a few pts. but yes it could be a LONG time before you draw even the archery tag. One thing is for sure though......you will never draw the Henry's if you don't apply for it.

If you wanna hunt the Henry's put in for the Henry's! If your only 17 you will have a tag while you can still put up a good hunt for the muley of a lifetime!

I now have 15 points and hope that 2011 will be my year. You just never know when your lucky number will come up.

Tagalong,
Perhaps you have heard the saying, "there is nothing sure in life except death and taxes". Well that is true for hunting tags as well. If you keep playing the odds-perhaps until you are old-you will probably draw that Henry tag. It could be next year, or it might be 30 years from now. But then who knows what the future will bring for any of us? So I'd say go with your gut and perhaps you can get the old man to rub some of that recent "family luck" on your application!

It is a draw. There is always someone who will get lucky.....unfortunately that is not me. I have 12 points going in for an Archery tag and it could be 10 more years before I draw.

Put in for it, you never know.

respect my authorita

Those of us that are old and wrinkly already will have to die or quit applying sometime! It's called attrition!

At your age it would seem that drawing would be impossible but it can and will happen IF you want it badly enough and NEVER miss the drawing again.

You and I know someone who drew a Sportsman's tag and the odd for that tag were alot worse! Right?

Do more research and apply in every western State that has a good deer tag. That might keep you busy with a few deer hunts.

I've hunted the Henry's a bunch and taken some great bucks (back when it was open) but I'm too far down the trail to draw under the current system. I only have 10 points so I'm looking elsewhere for my deer tag.

Good luck, hang in there.

The Henrys won't be "The Henrys" forever. If you put in for 15 more years hoping to draw, it most likely won't be the same unit as it is today.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-14-10 AT 02:41PM (MST)[p]Ha if I had my dad's luck i would have drawn a rifle tag on the Henrys with 1 point.

I am thinking that I will just put in for the Henrys until i have 10 or so points hoping that i get lucky. And then i will switch to the san juan. Assuming that the units are all the same at that time. Which they probably won't be.

I just don't want to waste all those years putting in for the Henrys when I could draw a great tag on the san juan. And then start putting in for elk!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-14-10 AT 09:21PM (MST)[p]Don't give up someone draws every year with not that many points. For example, I heard that Chad Kulow drew an Archery tag with 6 pts. His buck is a monster.

there are two kinds of tags given out on the Utah Le deer hunts.

example:
we will use archery tags

there are 8 total tags given out every year

4 tags will go to high point holders. "bonus tags"

the other 4 will go to the lucky bastages group. you might draw one of these tags but it would be like winning $100,000 in a vegas slot ODDS ARE PROBABLY 1 IN 200 FOR AN ARCHERY TAG IN THIS GROUP.

I can guarantee that you that you will NEVER EVER draw a "bonus tag" in your lifetime. FACTS!!

So the true answer is with 4 points is you will NEVER EVER draw the tag with 4 points if you are the last one in your point pool to draw. The pyramid scheme is to large and you wont live long enough.

Ya that is pretty depressing.

I will just keep putting in and hope i get lucky. But i will probably just switch over to the San Juan.

It makes me wonder if when i have kids, if they will ever be able to draw any LE tags.

Remember that you must apply every single year. Others will forget or give up or die or get too old. You might get lucky!

It took me 27 years to draw a sheep tag in Ut and 28 years for an elk. I started WAY before the points system. You will outlive or out apply many of the people in the system now.

Look at the deer points...... Every unit took MAX to draw the first 10 years now you can draw in several units with the same 10 points.

True..... the Henry hunt will probably not be in the cards for you. Heck, I want a Sportsman's Rocky tag but I'll prob never have that either. BUT you can't draw if you don't apply!

Good luck young bro.

Zeke

PS: Keep spreading the word that others will never draw and watch them drop out! LOL

LAST EDITED ON Sep-16-10 AT 02:40PM (MST)[p]Ha will do. I will just tell everyone that it is impossible for them to draw on the Henrys. Then maybe i will have a chance after they all drop out. haha
