Have not seen much success on here yet. How was the opener???? is it better than years past or still down. Moon phase was a little tough for opener I would guess.I will Be up there this weekend trying my luck.

I was in the H high country for the first 5 days and seen about 10X more orange than deer, it was a joke. After the second day most hunters got frustrated and left the area, and the hunting improved quite a bit after that. I logged 18+ miles on foot in that steep country on the opener and seen 11 total deer and about 50-60 different people. I shot the best buck I seen on the trip on the fourth day, a 160 class deer.

Big-DD

Were you in the Wilderness?? That sounds crazy that many people were there. Congrats on your buck at least your hunt was not totally ruined by all the people.

I wasn't in the wilderness. In all the trips I have ever made into that area, maybe 8-9, I had never seen so many people. Guess in the next years I will skip the opener and go up in the middle of the hunt during the week. We considered it this year, but figured since the opener was on Wednesday that it wouldn't be that bad, we was wrong.

I don't know about nonresidents, but all of us residents knew this year how good the bucks are. I expect it pushed a few extra people up this year. I don't hunt that area. To crowded. I've a colleage that hunted and he hiked in several miles. Still saw a couple of other hunters, but also some great bucks. He didn't put a shot together first thing and had the audacity to shoot a bear that morning requiring a hike out...

I think the "nice" weather causes more people to get out of the house, take the horses and kids out for a hunt. Need some cold, rain, snow, and most people will stay home. That's my opinion. The weather, while it's not what I like to see on a hunt, it IS what many like to see and they get out in the hills and enjoy it. ?????????????

Agreed. I can't even imagine the crowds this past and the coming up weekend with the "nice" weather. I;m heading up the last part of the season and hoping for some cooler temps, and some snow would be great. I bet the bucks are staying in the timber with all the pressure now and some favorable weather might get them out a little more.

ive seen one 30 inch 5x5 that was killed on the opener. and heard of 3 other big bucks over 180 that got killed around the same time.(region G) i should have the tag next year, hopefully and i hope to be one of those guys to get a nice buck like that!

my brother and his friend and i got 3 pretty nice bucks in region h, but there were A TON of hunters there.

I backpacked into Region H for the opener. I saw 6 to 10 bucks everyday but nothing over 24". I was solo and I never saw another person for six days. It was great!

We waited and went up this past Tuesday and planned to stay till Sunday. We were there less than 2 days packing out 2 28" buck we just couldn't pass on. Pretty much had the place to ourselves. I was surpised to see the deer in the same places they were in July and August when I was there and not scattered from all the opening day traffic.

Region G was good to me. I did see a lot of hunters but I seen a lot more deer than hunters. I also seen 5 wolves that I thought would ruin the whole trip but the deer scattered and the next day laid low. They all resumed their regular schedules as soon as they felt comfortable. If you have any complaints about the amount of hunters you should talk to the Wyoming Game and Fish department. I seen at least 9 different hunters and all of them were non residents. The locals typically wait for a weekend. As said by a good friend of mine ?don't blame the wolves or the other hunters. Learn to out hunt the competition."
