Your opinion please.

Took pictures of this buck during my hunt. I think he is a 24" wide 165"-170's" buck. I'm wondering if I'm underguessing or if I'm in the ballpark. fatrooster.

My guess would be you underestimated. Looks like his ears are back and it makes guessing the width difficult. I'd put him at 26'' wide, depending on depth of forks, about 180.

If his left side is the same as his right I would say your underguessing.Just to hard to see GOOD LUCK !!!

Where is he so I can get a better look and tell you what I think ! That is not a 165 170 class buck. I can tell you a better score when I get my spotter on him. You can go with rooster.

He's right around 170-180 I would say. It is kinda hard to tell with the pics you have posted. Heck, just kill him and then let us know what he scores!

I'd say this is a classic under-estimation... He is definitely over 24", especially at the G3s. I have a 171", 26 7/8" wide buck, and I can tell you this one looks to be about 27" wide and I'd put him over 170", probably about 176"... Great buck, put a tag on him...!!!

Can't see his left but if it matches I would say you judged him a bit low in width up at the G3s (my guess is 26") and score (my guess high 170s to low 180s).

To hard to tell what he scores Drew, but if you didn't go after him then I'm gonna be way dissapointed in you. He is better than 175, and wouldn't be surprized if he topped 185.

I'm guessing that your estimation is conservative. This buck in my opinion is probably in the 27-28 inch outside spread region and in the 175 to 185 ballpark. Its tough to guess exactly with the photos, but I wouldn't hesitate getting a closer look if ya know what I'm sayin'.

Ya, I agree, he's better than 24 and 170. I'm with others 27ish and 180ish. Looks good to me!

Good looking buck I would go with a 180 score and bumping 27"

My best guess is right at 180"
He's better than 165"-170" for sure. I've killed enough in the 160-170" class to know when I see a better buck.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-23-10 AT 12:01PM (MST)[p]I guess I'm the odd man out. Going off what I can see in those pics I don't think he would have a chance to break 170. He's still in velvet and with his ears pinned back it makes him look bigger than he actually is. If his left side matches his right side I think he's in the mid 160s, 25-26 wide.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. I took the picture in August and he was definitely in velvet. He went over the top of the mountain and I never saw him again. ELKOHUNTER hunted with me on our last weekend and its possible that we saw him on our last day of hunting. fatrooster.
