Hey guys anyone ever hunted the Indian Peaks area in Southern Utah during the general deer hunt? I have a buddy that is kinda big on giving this area a shot as he has been involved with a few big deer being pulled out of there over the past few years. Supposedly there aren't many deer but the ones you see are BIG.

Any thoughts or experiences up in those parts?

wouldnt waste my time ive spent a lot of time on the unit over the years have only seen a couple decent bucks i think the area has potential but has alot of cats, cows, and way to many wild horses and not alot of deer. i would try ox valley and get away from the roads.

This area has gone down hill big time for deer and elk. I've hunted it for 10+ years and this year is the worst. I have spent over 50+ days out there elk scouting/hunting and only saw 4 bucks. Seriously! This will be the first time in ten years I will not be hunting deer out there. I think the spike hunting pressure has really effected the deer herd out there. Sucks!!!

There never has been much of a deer herd out there, for the area they have to run anyways.

+1 Peakfreak I hunted out there this archery season and only saw a few bucks. Saw some dinks and one shooter that I was able to harvest as you know. Listen to peakfreak he knows the area like the back of his hand!!!

I have hunted deer their during muzzle a few times and have seen some big bucks south of cougar spar road. I would have to get out my maps to pin point the areas that we hunted. Remote dead end road and I have not ran into any others while hunting this area. To the east was private.

In all the time I have spent out there, I've only seen a few nice bucks and never during season. As has been stated, there aren't many deer out there. There is so much country that is almost un-huntable (thick and flat) that it makes it really hard to find the ones that are there. I'd go elsewhere. Good luck whatever you choose.

HUNTINGGUY, All bull aside dleonard and peak are not being 100% TRUTHFULL on this post there are huge bucks on this unit BUT they are few and far between you wont see a lott of deer but when you do he is usually a shooter i have 3 bucks on film in velvet that i will post if i can crop the photo because peak will recognize the country and if i can talk 300wby to post the 6 bucks that crossed the road in front of him and his brother and posed for the droid as for dleonards ox valley remark well ox valley used to hold some monsters i know i own a few of them but those days are long gone most over hunted property in the state ! NO BULL !

the peaks have huge potential there is a ton of country, lots of food and little to now winter kill. I have seen a couple very nice bucks out there. like i said "I have spent alot of time out there." If i had been scouting out there and knew of a good buck then that is where i would spend my hunt. As far as my statement about going to ox valley. Point being you would have a better chance of just running into a nice buck in ox valley, than you would on the peaks. as far as the elk still holds a few big bulls for now. But with all the duesh bag spike hunters eliminating all of the up and coming bulls on the unit the peaks and most of utahs le elk units will son be $#!t. But thats only my opinion.

I'll bet your bucks in the velvet are long gone and nocturnal now, thanks to all the elk pressure. I have seen some big ones out there in the past, but not this year. I will not be deer hunting where elk and mustangs rule anymore. Goodluck and I'll see you in Ox Valley with everybody else in town ;)
