Hey Everyone,

I'm taking my dad down hunting on the Pauns Mgmt next week. He hunted it 20 years ago without success so has high hopes this time around.

We've been down scouting a few times and are really familiar with the teritory, but the deer were still up north at the time. Anyone been out hunting with the muzz or rifle and pass up a good 3pt?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Why the L are you worried about 3 points on the Paunsaugunt j/k? The deer are moving down but are higher up yet than they were last year at this time- trust me I have this on good authority. Check out Nephi Pasture and Mustang.

I just completed a Pauns rifle hunt. I will tell you that I hunted lower elevations for the entire time I was out there. I did not see many deer. They are either still in the higher country or they just don't exist. I hunted the Jeppson/Mustang area yesterday and did not see many bucks. Frankley, the hunting was tough. I figured a late season and a rifle, not to mention super weather would make for a terrific chance at what ever lives on the unit. I only saw an average of five bucks per day, mostley two points. Prior to the hunt I scouted the country on top the white ledges. I did see quite a few deer, but nothing I wanted to tag out on. I'll be on the unit with friends for the rest of the hunt. I would be glad to share any worth while information with you. I will check back on this thread after a couple of more days and let you know what I see.

Just wodering if anyone has some updated info on this hunt?
Leaving Monday with my son for his first hunt.

Thanks again

How long does the hunt last? The deer are either still scattered over the entire unit or the numbers are way down. I think a combination of both likely. Anyway, you can go about anywhere and see deer. I was at the Jepson area south of highway 89 on Wednesday. There were very few deer there then. Also, I work that stretch of highway and know that on normal years the car deer accidents are numerous right now. That is not the case this year. Some of my favorite spots in the sand country are not producing either. I believe I would start in the mid elevation, something like the Bald Knoll over to Mill Creek would be good. This country has some great open, grassy areas with plenty of feed and allows for good glassing as well as public lands access. check in if you can and I'll be glad to update you. Most of all, have a great time and enjoy being with your son.
