Here's what happened for me...any other 21 2nd season guys bummed?

Summary: 13 days scouting and 8 days hunting, never saw anything over 165. Came home empty handed.

I scouted 13 days in this unit. 2 weekends in Sept. and 1 in October. Then went 4 days early just to make sure I could find a big deer. Hunted the entire hunt except the last day and never saw a buck over 165. The country and unit looked great, had alot of folks recommend it to me. It also came highly recommended by my network of big buck gurus. I invested all the time and money I could find this year for this trip. In fact, I called it my Once in a Lifetime Mule Deer hunt. I was very dissapointed. Every deer hunter I spoke with out there said the same thing. If they are in 21 they must of been nocturnal or I just plain looked past them in the cover. We'll see what 3rd season produces...but I am not aware of any 2nd season 21 giants. If you know of them please post. It will help me feel better about the unit for the future. Good luck to you 3rd season hunters!

my friends wife killed a 202" five point. Heard of several in the low 180's. I went looking around the last night of season and seen 3 that were 180-185. Not monsters but not bad. Too many elk hunters this year. 3rd will bring some giants. Most of them will be shot from the hood of the truck

I'm aware of 2 over 200 on the ground and another approaching 240 that was seen and not killed. I agree, 3rd season should see a few more big deer hit the dust with the rut approaching and some colder weather

I feel the same about this unit. Saw one 4x5 before season I figured in the mid 170's, other than that the next biggest buck I saw I killed and was no were near that big. Maybe some of the local guys know better areas to check, I looked over alot of the unit. Shouldnt be know big secrets as you can drive almost anywhere in the unit. We did kill our bucks out walking, but should have probably just road hunted all day as this seems to be the most productive method on this hunt. Not my style of hunting, really dont enjoy road hunting and will probably look for an area in Co that takes less points with harder access for my next trip there. Not a bad hunt just not worth the points IMO.

I heard second season was pretty dang good with quite a few really big deer shot. Third season should rock.

I saw one giant - in the back of a white pick up on thursday (I believe). The half of the rack I could see...was real good. Later talked to the game warden and he said that was the biggest 2nd season deer he had seen.
