Here is my 2010 Vernon buck. Its Just over 26" with 7 pts on the left and 5 on the right. Sorry for the bad pics but my camera went bad after the initial pics. The buck carries good mass all the way up. He blades up and has some trash which adds to his chracter. He is not the biggest buck on the mountain but he is a mature animaland I'm happy.

I scouted hard, read all the blogs and what I know in the end is mule deer hunting is just that, hunting. Big bucks don't come easy. You pay your dues and spin the wheel. The Vernon has its own set of issues. I had a great week of hunting and an even better summer and fall getting to know the area and its animals with my son. Special thanks to Wyatt. He know's who he is and was an invaluable source of info on the area.

It is also about the 5th buck Ive seen killed out there this year that are that good or better.

The harder you work the luckier you get!!

Beautiful buck for the Vernon.
I wish mine this year would of had that mass on him!

Dam nice Vernon buck! I love the mass and extra points.

I have been trying to pick a unit in which to spend my points and the Vernon is near the top of the list since I live so close.

You should be very proud of your buck. He'd stack up against most any buck in other units in the State! Congratulations!

ive got pictures of this buck in the velvet from this summer. i couldnt find him in august during my archery hunt though. id love to hear your story of hunting this buck. lets hear it!!

I didn't see this one during my many scouting trips. Here's the story.

The weekend was a wash out. Saturday at daybreak I was at the head of Pine Canyon looking for a wide old 3 point a friend had been watching most of the summer. I found him late Thurday afternoon before the opener running with a big 4 pt that would score well. Saturday and Sunday were weather problems at that elevation. Most of my group left Sunday night.

Monday found me and my nephew back looking at the top of Pine. Two average 4 pts and nothing else. I changed locations to the area around the head of Pole and Cow Hollow. I found numerous bucks all in the mid 20" range. I had seen many hunters leaving with these types of bucks strapped to their rigs. It seemed that every canyon I went into held willow horned 3 and 4 points and a few big 2 pts. We watched several bucks rutting hard.

Tuesday morning I was back in the same area. Many deer and many bucks. More of the same with one exception. I found a 25" 4 pt with a 3" cheater on his right side. I was tempted but passed. Later that day I we found a 24" wide by 20" plus high willow horn chasing does right on the road just south of the Devil Creek cut off. Watched him at 30 yards for 5 minuets. Tempting but I resisted. My nephew left that afternoon. Later, I checked a couple of different areas but found nothing except coyotee and lion tracks.

I got a weather report late Tuesday. The weekend wasn't looking good and had me thinking I needed to make some hard decisions. The cheater buck was tempting me.

Wednesday morning found me back at the head of Cow Hollow and Pole. More of the same types of bucks as well as the cheater buck. He was in the same place as before. Not spooked and with the same group of does and small bucks. I decided to head higher through the drifts looking to the west where I had found many bucks earlier in the year.

While checking the head of Pole I found my buck bedded facing away from me. I was able to watch him through the spotting scope for several minuets. I could tell he wasnt super wide but the mass and the trash did it for me. He was 298 yrds on the laser, straight down hill. I made a good shot. The pack job wasn't more than a half mile.

I did not see this one during my many scouting trips. I saw probably 120 bucks in the 9 trips but not him. I would like to see the pics of him in velvet.

yep thats him. he was running with 2 real good scoring 4 points and a few smaller bucks. sorry the pics arent very good, they were taked with my phone through a spotting scope. keep in mind that they were taken in june.

>That is him. Where did you
>see him in June and
>will you email me those
>pics?

He was in pole canyon and otts in these pics. But I looked high and low for him before my hunt and couldn't find him. I've got some video on my phone too but it's hard to tell anything. What's your email address?
