I heard another twist for mule deer management in ut. Not my idea, however I really like it. The state should provide insentive for turning a regular season tag back that is left un-filled. Talk to Cabelas and sportsmans warehouse, any other sponsors, and have them donate guns and gear that would be given away in a drawing. You can be entered in this drawing by turning in your tag. No tag reductions would have to be made, all rewards would be from donations. It would save a handfull of two and three point bucks, eventually bringing back deer numbers.

I think it would take a few years, however I see this working no matter what happens if we stay with 5 regions or if we break it down to 29 regions.

Could it work?

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

it would prolly make the ones that would have killed a 1x2 happy "if they saw one" but I think thats about it!!!!
cause if a rifle guy in Utah sees a Utah non typical 1x2 its down!

The harder you work the luckier you get!!

.. as opposed to what SW? The stick flipper who would have just wounded it? Give me a break.

I like the incentive idea, and i like the idea of the incentives being sponsor donations...
The only problem that I foresee is this: considering how many tags go unfilled, the number of "incentives" would have to be substantial... Otherwise, is a 1 in 10,000 shot at a new rifle worth not shooting a deer...??? I wager that to most avg guys in Utah, they'd rather shoot the deer.

Otherwise it's not a bad idea- plus the added bonus of possibly getting better harvest numbers...

Make SFW donate guns and gear and such because they get the most from the state. Make them give back! It supports their cause and we fall on even ground.

Helps get their name out there, and helps with PR.

This is a great idea except last time I checked, saving a few bucks from being killed does nothing to help the deer population. I would like these sporting good retailers to donate stuff for coyote killing contests and things like that. Crap think about it, for every coyote you kill your name gets entered into a drawing for a great prize. I'm all over that!!!!

Seems to me, voluntarily turning in your tag in the name of management would be like relieving your employee of all their duties while still issuing them a paycheck. Maybe I just have a distorted view about how these things are supposed to run?
