Anyone had any success yet on the extended hunt? Pics? Has the rut started? I was able to go out just one day so far as I live down south and only saw a small two point. Hoping to come back up sometime next week and see some bigger stuff.

Good luck all!

As far as I can tell the rut has not started. I was out on Wednesday in 28 degree weather and saw over 40 doe and one spike buck. He was not rutting by any means, and so I would say next week we should see some action.

I went out yesterday, so LOTS of deer, but no good bucks.
I did not see one group of doe that had a buck with them.

for the last week or so we've seen some bucks lip curling and pushin some does but the does aren't ready yet. we've had opportunities on a couple different good bucks but screwed it up both times. but the bucks don't seem to care about too much.

I was up on the front, saw about 20 deer. one spike and a big 2x3. he was rutting hard. we got buggered up by two coyotes and a mountain lion. in this same canyon i have seen coyotes, one cougar and even a black bear. almost as many predators as deer.

You shot the coyotes and cougar right? If ya want more deer kill every predator you see

LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-10 AT 01:06PM (MST)[p]Yes the rut has started. I watched a huge four point chase does all over and watched another nice three point chasing does. As far as success I have had several opportunity's at some small fours and passed. I stalked a big three point up to a hundred yards and was screwed by some a-hole in a helicopter.
I also Watched another big four point untill dark one evening, and was hopeing to make the hike up to him the next morning. But when I got there I tried glassing him up and found two other archers had beat me two them, but they were unsuccessful, and the deer was no where to be found. Heading out tommorow to see if I can find him again.

How high on the mountain are they? Have they moved down?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-10 AT 08:11PM (MST)[p]I am finding most deer are between 5500 and 6500 feet. You will find alot of does lower, although I think most of the more mature bucks are still at 6000-6500 feet. Like I said I have seen a couple good bucks rutting hard but on the other hand I have also seen alot of does with no bucks. So either there are only a few mature bucks this year or the rut is not in full swing.

My uneducated guess would be that the warm weather has slowed them down.

I dont know here you live but weve had snow and cooler temps last couple of weeks. It has pushed them from 9000 to 6000 feet. The rut is here and it will only get better the next couple of weeks.

I put down a four point today... 20 wide is all... way fun and I'm excited story and pics up tomorrow
