Idaho is a great state with many hunting opportunities, I had a thought on how to maybe make it even better. What I am proposing is to auction off one tag per unit. Example unit 32 controlled buck hunt offers 40 permits on the controlled draw. Raise that to 41 but make that 1 extra tag be purchased by the highest bidder in state or out of state. This could be done through out the state?s controlled hunts on deer , elk, pronghorn, or even bear as long as the one extra permit would not jeopardize the health or sustainability of the herds . If something like this could even be implemented, I would like to see the extra funds generated from that auctioned tag be used to directly improve that particular big game management unit, not the money from unit 32a going to benefit unit 45 or vice versa. Either by purchasing and planting more sagebrush in the unit, further more extensive studies on the units animals, or even supplying ranchers with feed to help some of the game through the winter. This is just an idea that I had, and I have no idea if anyone else would support this. Thank You for your time

Sounds like a good plan however those less desireable units won't yeild the $$'s for the tag so the habitat or whatever you are trying to fix won't be fixed. The good units get better because more $$ will be spent there and the suffering units will continue to suffer.

On Utah's tags are u restricted to a certin unit or do u have free range of the state?

Auction tag's in utah are for unit's the only free range auction tag's are govenor tag's and they go for a pretty penny.

The units are NOT in such bad shape. What needs to be done is to have LESS PREDATION. THAT won't be accomplished with money.....only with more dead cats and more of us shooting coyotes (and those big dogs).

Beyond that, Utah has an absolute MESS with all of the tags they sell.........we do not need to start the transition to that way of doing things.

Within the shadows, go quietly.
