Option 2 was passed at NE region RAC last night...
Giving option 2 a sweep this week in the south, SE,

Am I the only one that thinks that our state is divided into the north and the south just like the Civil War?

Be interesting to see if the big game board will listen to the people or just snub the vote and go with option 1 to keep the DWR happy. My guess is we lose.

They also made a modification to Option #2 It was no antlerless hunts for 1-2 years unless is was agricultral problems or something like that can't remember exactly and also that the first 2 years be a 3 point or better. - Just to do something to jump start the deer herd. It was overall pretty good I thought with a fair turn out.

Any of those ideas to go along with option 2 will help. Glad to see all of these regions step up and let DWR know we are tired of being told there are deer when we know that is not the case. Southern had amendment to make Archery not be state wide.

Actually 70% of deer hunters in Utah want the opportunity to hunt. So the Racs went against the VAST MAJORITY.

I hope the wildlife board does the right thing and listens to the people especially when cutting tags is not biologically sound and financially irresponsible.

Limited entry hunting might be on the way. I hope. Something similar to Nevada or Colorado.
And it doesn't mean you will only get to hunt every 15 years.
Nevada has way fewer deer and you can hunt every 2 or 3 years unless you are really picky on your areas.
Some areas you can draw almost every year.

one thing they should do if they do go to unit hunting is change the draw procedure so that they look at 2nd choice areas before moving on to the next guy in line.
looking at everyones first choice before looking at 2nd choices needs to change.
In my humble opinion.

I still think that the board will let the state implement both options 1 and 2 at this point. I think they will go to an Option 2 in the regions that want it, and stay as they are in the other two. It should be fun to see. Of course last year the northern RAC voted against the 5 day hunt and it passed by the wildlife board.

Here is how I thought the NE RAC meeting went. The original motion was to go with Option 2, plus go 3-point or better for 2 years, plus stop all antlerless hunts except in severe problems areas (such as in agriculture lands with depredation problems). The motion was amended to withdraw the part about antlerless hunts. So the motion that passed was Option 2 with a 3-point or better hunt for 2 years. I think the motion passed 5 to 3. The 3-point or better part of that was interesting since the Division and other States have the data that show it does not work. In fact the amount of mature bucks in the population goes down over time. All the older age class bucks eventually get shot and all you have left are the young bucks coming up (2 or 3 year olds) that are left for the legal harvest. Also, there was very little support from the public for a 3-point or better type strategy.

Anyway, it was an interesting addition to Option 2.
