dad shot at a buck this morning at forty yards but one of the blades on his rage was open already when the arrow left the string and he totally missed... i think we'd of killed him if we'd have just threw an ax instead chuck

Kacey, I am sorry to hear you guys had to experience this.Rage Broadheads, IF, and thats a big IF, they would perform flawless, would be one of the most destructive heads out there. That being said my personal experience with them was about the same result. Except I ended up wounding and animal with no recovery.
I will never shoot a Rage let alone a mechanical again.

i use to use grim reapers, but they get destroyed practicing with them. I kept having to buy replacement parts. mechanicals have too many issues, switch to fixed blade.

yeah thats the thing i've killed a couple bucks with rages but its all it takes is that one time it doesn't work

I helped a guy on an elk hunt this year who was shooting rage 2 blade and all I can say is yikes!! Lost game, blades opening, too many variables. I will never use them.

they are easy to modify with some small rubber bands like the ones orthadontists use. they are cheap and take very little time and effort to make them right. if the rage flys best for you then grab some small bands and a dremel and modify them to make them right.

Don't trust them dang mechanicals, stick with a nice high end fixed blade. Some of the better ones fly like field points anyways. I personally used slick tricks this year and was very impressed with their performance on a mature bull elk.

I think a lot of the problems with rage broadheads opening is because people dont replace the rubber orings after opening and closing of the blades. This need to be done as the oring does get dinged and nicked. Also I personally feel many people use a mechanical head to fix other problems in their bow or form. I have seen numerous people that the bow wont group a FP and broadhead such as a fixed blade so they just screw a rage on and its all fixed. I for one tune with a fixed blade and then will switch to a rage. I think a rage broadhead is a great broadhead for turkeys and deer. I wouldnt use one on elk though.

I've killed a couple elk and a bunch of whitetails with magnus stinger 100 grain 2 blades. They are awesome and no I don't work for the company. :)

this is my first time here, I am a 11 year old boy, and all I can say is you should have used a WACEM!! but sorry you didnt get your trophy.

Yea' those RAGE Broadheads don't work at all on Elk. LOL!!

I used them last year and will never use them again! The blade opened at the shot and that arrow flew every which way but straight! It was a brand new O ring. Maybe if your a treestand hunter there great, but hunting the west on the ground, not a good idea.
I know one big fan of Rage, the buck thats still alive!

they've performed great for me in the past but dad held out all year and sometime between leaving the top of that big wash and the little stand of cedar trees that blade came open ha i mean i guess it's a part of bow hunting but i don't have to like it

LAST EDITED ON Nov-20-10 AT 09:27AM (MST)[p]My question is for the guys saying they are having succes with the rage 2 blades: Are you guys shooting higher poundage bows 70+? I tried out the two blades and they would open in flight, not all the time but maybe 2 out of every 10 I shot would open in flight. These were brand new broadheads so no problems with the o -ring. If you are shooting a high poundage bow did you have to modify the broadheads to keep them closed. They do fly great but after testing them out I didnt have much confidence in shooting them on a hunt.

You could hear a million sad stories about every knid of broadhead out there, it just seems that every rage story gets published. I shoot a Bowtech Old Glory, 70 # draw, 31.5 in draw, a 400 grain arrow at about 306 fps. Everything I have shot with a rage has been recovered, most in the first 100 yards. Good shots and bad shots. I have shot 1,000's of shots with the real heads, I prefer to practice with the real thing, and have never had one open in flight. We went 3 for 3 this year on elk, no problems. I love the 2 inch gash they inflict, massive blood trails. We have killed 13 elk, numerous deer, and a ton of hogs in TX, and never lost an animal. Everyone has there own preferneces, I like these heads because in less than perfect field conditions, I like having the extra cutting width. In my experience Wac'ems were junk they fell apart, Slicktricks were junk as well, Montecs tiny entrance wounds, I used to shoot Muzzy's they were Ok, thunderheads planed out of my set up, Shuttle T-Locks were OK as well. I think it's funny the people on here saying their 2 blades are oppening in flight!!!!ha ha ha you can say that all you want, but there is no way to prove it. Check your blades before you shoot and you shouldn't have problems
