The AWAKENING.....

Regardless what side of the fence you sat on today it is apparent to everyone that our deer herds suck and something must be done. This has caused us ALL to wake up.

None of the options today were what I wanted and status quo was not what I wanted either. I want our herds fixed and the way I want that will be brought out later in a different forum.

The greatness of this country is that we can all make a difference in our own way if we get involved.

This was not the 1st meeting on our Mule Deer and it won't be the last. Things will continue to morph and change and hopefully for the better.

I cannot for sure say that todays decision will save our deer herds and no one else can say that either. This was simply 1 thing that the powers that be thought would be a good starting point.

My only recommendation to all of you regardless where you sit on this is to stay involved however you feel is the best to be involved.

Thanks for your involvement and you probably won't here much from me for awhile.

Happy Happy Holidays and Best Wishes.

UTAH HAS TOO MANY LAND CARP!

I'm just glad its going to ruin all the bow hunter's plans! Hunt anywhere you want for month sorry no more of that.

Killer. I am an archery hunter and I'm super happy with the decision made to get rid of the state wide archery hunts as well. I care about our deer quality way more than I do my own personal opportunity to hunt. I will get a tag every couple of years and when I don't I will gladly hunt the states where I can get a tag. Hunters should all stick together for our sport and our herds. We have plenty of anti's fighting against us. We don't need more combatants especially between us all.

I agree that now is the time to get involved if you're not already. There are a lot of decisions to made before this goes into action in 2012. I thought there were a lot of good points made today from both sides of fence, but I think the right option was chosen.

I think it's safe to say that today will go down in mule deer history and I'm glad I was there.

Happy Holidays to you!

I wasted a vacation day to watch a decision that had the outcome determined back in March.

I have no problem with a good honest debate and doing the democratic thing. What went down today was a complete farce.

Wiley,
I am nominating that for post of the
century on Monster Muleys!

Your are spot on.

WW, you need to quit whining and figure out some way to jump on and help in the coming months/years to help the deer herds or get the H$LL out of the fight...
OK I said it I'm done now!!!

We need to all promote the coyote information that was presented. We all need to do more coyote hunting and do it smarter. February - April as the fawns hit the ground and in June when the pups hit the ground. Kill the Alpha male or female of a pair and they won't bread. This was very informative because as an avid sportsmen I don't get out and hunt coyotes like i'd like to. Mainly because of money and time and especially location. I always though it would take a full day to go out and find a place that wasn't over called and hunted. In the dead of winter when I assumed that is when you hunted them. I am going to make it a point to get out once or twice both in the early spring and as well in the month of June. And BTW to the rifle guys that are so happy that the Archery is no longer statewide..... grow up! Archery opportunities have introduced more people to hunting than I think you realize and I think that decision only hurt the hunter recruitment. More so than the reduction in tags.

I was actually impressed today with the comments that were made by individuals on both sides of the argument. Just like Tony said, one thing was evident today, and at all of the RAC meetings, Utah hunters are very concerned about their mule deer. My hell, we even had a board member almost in tears when he was discussing the herd down on the San Juan.

I supported option 2 and think they made the right choice, however, IF they just stop at smaller hunting units we will have failed our mule deer again. As hunters we need to really come together now and demand accurate data gathering. Demand mandatory harvest surveys. Demand actual field counts like they used to do (by the way, the question was asked today how they go about counting mule deer. Their answer; "We don't physically count them.") Demand more aggressive predator control. It's important now more than ever to be involved. While we may have some differences in oppinion, there are many things we can agree on and I can't imagine the things we could do if we all came together.

It's always an adventure!!!

So with the whole state being LE deer now------

Did they get rid of the 2 point pools and combine it to just one point pool?

Robb

There are still a lot of things to iron out. I think they will tackle season dates and point systems within the next year. this thing doesn't go into affect until 2012.

It's always an adventure!!!

From what I have heard about this new scheme of 29 units, I like it a lot. We are the only state that has not yet gone to unit hunter management. We manage every other part of the deer plan by unit. The hunters should be an equal part in the equation.

1080.....your only hope

Tony, how do you feel about a split General Rifle Deer season. Similar to what Colorado currently has. Rather than putting so much pressure on the public Deer herds with a 3or5 day hunt. Say, go to two 7 day hunts. With the number of hunters allowed during each hunt capped. Example, If Utah has 86,000 Deer hunters allowed in 2011, Have Hunt "A" would be capped at 43,000 Hunters and Hunt"B" would be capped at 43,000 Hunters. REDUCE PRESSURE AND IMPACT!! I would really like to know what you think on this. Thanks,Nathan Adams-Syracuse Utah.

+1 D13, my dad was one who would use that stuff back when it was allowed, and it rocked the coyotes! I could just imagine dropping road-kill deer covered with 1080 in all our favorite deer winter ranges and then return back to see the coyotes with a decline in population.
