Man up..

Leasening to all the BS talked about this and that, they need to do "THIS" . Most of the reason the deer herd has dropped is the amount of predators. We have more cats, dogs and bears then ever. The state says we have 3000 cats, do the math at a deer aweek. Everywhere you go in the state you hear song dogs and see tracks. Its hard to leason to the guy that says he doesnt like this or that when he is the guy that only hunts 3 or 4 days ayear and from his nice warm truck or off a 4 wheeler.

I say "MAN UP" and do your part to help the deer herd. Get out and shoot coyots. Its free to all and hell you might even enjoy yourself. We as hunters need to do our part aswell..

While I agree with the whole predator issue, I highly disagree with the other part of your comment. We need every single hunter out there. The backcountry guy, the road warrior, the atv dude, the bowhunter, the muzzy hunters, the firestick hunters, etc. Every single person that enjoys chasing wild game should be on board with this fight. That doesn't mean we all have to agree but we all do need to meet at the end. Every person that buys a license, whether they hunt 1 day or 365 days, deserves a voice in this fight. That being said, we should all be out there doing our part. I think it's up to each individual to figure out what that is and then get busy.

It's always an adventure!!!

o and Kelee Johnson from the wildlife board also said we need to get out and kill the bobcats. Thats right I guess the wildlife board thinks bobcats are taking down our deer! what a joke!

Screw SFW and their BS worthless projects and once in a life time 100% success shoots! This state deserves better!!!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-10 AT 00:01AM (MST)[p]Could be wrong but I think I recall one of the DWR biologist telling the Board that under certain conditions bobcats are killing deer. Seemed like he said their studies showed when the rabbit pop. was down the cats were on the deer. Maybe I dreamt that but I thought they went over that in one of the meeting either Tues or Weds.

Course anything Johnson says is a joke? Is that the point you were making?

Could be, well maybe....... the biologist was incorrect...............naa........

Well someone's wrong, Johnson, SW or the biologist. Let me guess............, oh heck, you decide.

Reducing predator populations enough to make an effect will take more than a bunch of weekend callers. Bounties have proven to be ineffective. And bobcats can be detrimental on deer herds, especially sub-adults...Not a joke.

The use of certain toxicants and/or fur price increases would both help significantly.

You're right lumpy, yours and Keele's opinions are much more valid than dozens of biologists.

How many threads have there been in the last month about predator control, and all saying the same thing?

I am pretty sure that if you do not have a wildlife biology degree you need to shut up and let the biologists do their job.

I for one have a Wildlife Biology degree and i am sick of hearing that people think that predators is the reason.

Everything is a problem. Harvest mortality, winter mortality, loss of habitat, human wildlife interactions, predators, etc.

Predators is a portion of the lower herd #'3. There are several studies that state that when there are large numbers of coyotes taken in an area, the pups born the next season increase to fill the void. So why waste the time and effort culling all the predators when their reproduction rate increase the next breeding season.

So, if you don't know what you are talking about...shut up!!!

Sorry SWB. I had this in my picture file. Granted, it's a big bobcat but they have, will and do kill deer. Also, just type in bobcats killing deer on your google search. Lot's of articles and studies on that subject.

Mulieslayer Mybe everyone would shut up if you smart guys would start diong a better job! Put that paper that says congrats now your smart to work and fix the problems.

Mulieslayer,

I've worked with lawyers, finance and many business people that were highly educated. Doesn't mean they are at all good at what they do. Just means they SAT in a classroom.

What does it matter how someone hunts or for how long they hunt for? They have just as much right to b itch about the deer herds as you do. Oh and hunting coyotes is not free. You have to spend money to do it. Now you man up and go and enjoy yourself.

Hey mulieslayer 12 we dont need a college education to speak are mind. I'm pretty sure us hunters spend more time in the hills, seeing whats going on than you and your degree.

So from myself and many other hunters that agree with me shut up. Oh and get off your I have a college degree horse. People like yourself are annoying.

Your like engineers you go to school get a degree, have no hands on experience in my line of work, but than run your mouth telling me, someone who has been working in excavation for close to tens years that i dont know what im doing.

My point is I dont give a sh!t that you have a degree in biology.

Oh and plus a hundred to hornkiller he couldnt have hit the nail on the head any better.

I recently ran into a few groups hunting lions on the North Slope. They said they werent cutting many tracks and the ones they were seeing were old. Now having said them seeing old tracks still means they are out there, but the point of this post was to state that the lion hunters weren't seeing much and were not having any success.
I saw 2 lions and 4 coyotes in that area during the rifle deer hunt(shot at 2 dogs and got 1).
WHY IS POISON ILLEGAL? (serious question)

That is not true about lots of pups being born when the numbers are low. There are lots of pups when theres lots of food. When the food is down so are the coyote pups.
Why would you not control predators? All of the tree huggers want them to take hunters out of the picture. If the coyotes, wolves, and bears keep the numbers in check why would there need to be hunters. Just something to think about. Hunter of all types need to be on the same side. All the regulations on trapping, and snarring just helps the predators grow in numbers. The more of them there are the less of use there are going to be getting tags to hunt.

My dad and I was taking about poison and that subject today. He said back when he was a kid everyone that ranched had 1080 compound and had no problems with coyote but because it works we cant have it. Thats what happens with most things that work they get banded from use. What upsets me is in big citys like New York they do use 1080 compound to kill and control rats but we cant use it out west that makes no sense to me.

3 separate studies done that suggest otherwise wildman. 1 in Kansas and 2 in Colorado. All studies confirm that when you thin out a population of coyotes the remaining ones become more healthy and the females litters will double and sometimes triple in size. Let me see if I can find the links to those and post them up.

It's always an adventure!!!

It all comes back to food. Thin them out theres more to eat. Cant have high numbers of pups with coyotes that are thin with nothing to eat. I live in a where there are lots of sheep and killing coyotes has to be done or cost everyone lots of money. The years there are lots of rabbits there are lots of coyotes. If your fact is true than den them. Kill them in the hole and not have to worry about them at all. When you get a den you get the ##### and pups for sure and most the time the mail and a yearling or two that hangs out with them.

1080 was banned for its environmental impacts, it keeps killing down the line of all the scavengers that pick at the carcass. The way I understand it the condor had alot to do with the outlaw of 1080. And no its not used anywhere now.

I wish someone could come up with something that worked really good then dispersed not to have any effects on the next animal that eats it.

justr is right!!!

1080 keeps on a killing!

Since there ain't no Condors in the Basin I say lets thin some small Game Predators out as well!:D

Took care of the wolves once I hear. I know its still used over seas. There is a new cocolate thing out but it does not work well. Its just an idea but it will never happen again times are changing to fast for that.
