LAST EDITED ON Dec-10-10 AT 10:28PM (MST)[p]Had a guy pm me about some pics I posted- S UT WIDE BUCK. Said I needed to get them off the internet as they were going to get the buck killed. I messaged back that whether they are up or not isnt going to determine if someone poaches him and that obviously he knew where the buck was. Someone else posted video of him on my thread.

Interesting to say the least!

I personally think that posting the photos of deer on the Internet actually reduces the chance of the deer getting poached. I think it's the deer that a poacher thinks no one knows exists that are the ones that get killed. It would be a bit hard for a poacher to brag about a huge buck they killed when someone else has posted "post hunt" photos of the deer on the Internet.

But, remember that kid who poached the buck out in the west desert of Utah on the military ground a few years back? He bragged about it and claimed he killed it on the Wasatch Front. Maybe that kid didn't know photos of the deer were floating around the Internet, but he shot that buck. Of course, I think it was a pretty easy case for the detective and easy conviction.

I think it one thing to post pictures of bucks. We all love to see them. But when its in an area in town,in the city limits where you cannot even legal hunt them. People have been messing with them . Its only a matter of time before someone trys to do something stupid ! We have seen these bucks and have picture from last year. Just hoping they wouldn't get to publicized.
To late that why the pm was sent!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-10 AT 02:39PM (MST)[p]Founder I am with you, a pic of a buck only helps with a potential poaching. Let it be shown I didn't post BigJohnT's name before he showed himself as the one that sent me a PM. I personally think this buck is a good one and should be seen by other enthusiasts.

Here is the real kicker- the local police dept stopped at my truck while I was looking at the buck last night and asked if I had a weapon. Then went on to talk about how nice the buck is and that he and another officer are taking turns watching it. Nice to see that our tax dollars are hard at work and going to a good cause. So instead of working on crime here are two guys looking at bucks in fields. What a joke!

"So instead of working on crime here are two guys looking at bucks in fields. What a joke!"

Why, is there a lot of crime in your area?

hunting guy,are you the one that was pulled over last night and had an expired drivers license, your lucky the cop didnt give you a ticket, cars parked on a dark street are always going to get checked, hes a nice buck but I doubt after the rut you will see him again,if hes lucky not to get hit by cars by then.

nope that was me with the expired tags, and i told the cop to check the buck out, oh and BTW the cops was a cool MO FO.... i had just got back from hunting and had a broken window, i had to get it fixed before i could get the inspection. He was way cool told me to get it fixed and get it register. Funny thing is , he pulled me over the next day and seen my window as fixed and i was on top of getting it done. I told him then and there he was one hell of a good cop. IMO WASHINGTON CITY COPS ARE PRETTY DAM COOL.

and yea he is one hell of a buck, if you want to make this interesting i bet you some good $$$$$ that i can photo , video this buck after the rut, better yet if you brave and have no confidence in my skill, i'll raise it and take his picture in the velvet. YOU IN OR OUT?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-12-10 AT 01:47AM (MST)[p]No a parked car in the dark is not always going to get checked out and asked about weapons. The cop clearly knew about the buck and was trying to play the part of the DNR which IMO he has no business doing. He was nice and we talked and he left saying, "sorry don't mean to harrass you." I told him it's fine, no big deal.

To the guy wondering if there is more crime in the area the answer is no not much, aside from a couple recent murders in the area, rampant drug use, domestic abuse cases, etc (just like everywhere). So yes I think two cops should not be playing babysitter for a buck.

To me this whole thing is stupid now and too full of drama. I only posted the pic of the buck because he is wide and impressive for such a young buck.

Best,

I used to post a hell of a lot of stuff, but very few of my pic's make it here now, hint why i haven't ever posted pic's of this buck or the 215 buck i have been chasing or the 250 ish buck i videoed the other morning. Any how just get used to the fact that some people are just plane JEALOUS.

+1.
man i would like to see some big bucks!!!

It sucks that its gotten bad enough people won't even post pictures of live deer! Some threads, even one of mine of kill photos have turned out bad.

I love to see pictures of big bucks! I don't need to know exactly where its at. They are a gorgeous majestic animal!

Its not like this is his first year here !! He has been living on the river for a couple years now seen him last year this time chassing a doe just off river road !!! And washington pd is all over people who are even looking at him in broad daylight , he is safe and sound .

Okay guys so what are the rules in Washington, St. George and Anywhere, Utah can you bow hunt outside 150 yard range from dwellling in city limits?

>30 buck , sent you a
>pm

That funny that U, No worries.... happy shed hunting call me, i might just retire this year, lay around get fat, watch the kids grow, and i might even pet my dog.

Why would you want to hunt him? I was raised in St.George I can remember before I was old enough to drive a car, riding my bike down to the river just to watch the deer that live down there. Back in the day you could find them from were the new hospital is all the way out past the Washington canals. Not far from were you took that pic, back in 2006 we were laying some sewer line. I remember looking up and seeing two bucks heading right for me I hit the dirt and they jumped over the top of me cool experience to be that close to some deer. Just enjoy them and take pictures there aren't near as many Virgin river deer like there used to be. Plus why would you want to hunt deer in city limits in a hundred and ten degrees.

Yes it is against the law to hunt within the city limits. To put it another way,it is against the law to shoot a bow with the city limits. Or a firearm for that matter.
I know there have been people down there hunting, but it is considered poaching.
For the record I never said I had a problem with ernie posting pictures of bucks here. The first one, i and others here new where it was. But its was just a buck in a field .We have all been watching those bucks. Heck a week ago friday that buck was running down the sidewalk under the street lights.
The second photos showed the house's in the back ground and you could tell exactly where they where. I just felt we didn't need to give up there location. They have enough people chasing them around being in town.
That being said I do enjoy seeing them and looking at them and other wildlife pictures. Hope fully this is understandable .

I think its good that the cops are a little on the alert for poaching. Its a crime just like anything else. I'm sure the guy isn't there 24/7, but he probably hunts just like the rest of us. I was working in Colorado a couple of years ago and was driving along slow looking over the project before it started....was about perfect rut time. A Colo. State Trooper pulled me over asked a few questions.....nice guy....then told me they had quite a bit of poaching going on in that area. I think the more eyes we have on what's left of our herd the better.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-12-10 AT 05:27PM (MST)[p]Okay okay the story is dead, let's put it to rest. Several people know about the buck I guess and so who cares. Like I said I simply posted a pic of a buck.

To answer John's assertion that the second set of pics showed houses in the back and therefore gave up the deers location makes me laugh. Those very obscure light & shapes in the background could very well be Orderville or Kanab for that matter. Here's the deal John, you send those second set of pics to a neutral third party that you don't know and you ask them where in southern utah they are. Heck send them to guys here in St George and ask them where they are.

How about this anybody that wants this bucks known location pm me and ill give you the gps quards of him and you all can enjoy him ,wafj ,john, and others for being so possessive of this damn buck he doesnt belong to any of you he is a public land buck plain and simple .
