I just noticed "The Golden Buck" is for sale on KSL.com.

Here's what the add says and a picture of the buck.

"This is the ledgandary Golden buck.It scores 307 2/8 non-typical and has been showcased on kings outdoor world calenders and the original Magnificant 7 poster from Kings outdoor world. It truely is a breathtaking Mule deer. We are looking for a good home for this once in a lifetime Mule Deer. We would like to get at least $100,000 from it, as we have been offered in the past but at the time we weren't willing to sell."

I don't know much about the buck other than it's HUGE and I dream of shooting something like it someday. What would you do if it were yours and you were lucky enough to shoot it? I'd like to sit here and say that I'd never sell any animal that I personally harvested but $100,000.00 is a LOT of money... Lucky for me I'll likely never need to worry about it! :)

Awesome buck. Perhaps Don Schaufler would be interested in
including this great trophy in his famous collection.

I'd have to be really hard up for money before I'd sell any of my deer. They're just too important to me.

I'd sell it and get a reproduction. All taxidermy is anyway is an artistic reproduction of what the animal looked like when it was walking around. You could sell it for a 100k and go whack a half dozen 200+ inchers on the rez and keep all them too!

Who would pay that for a mount is a more interesting question to me? I understand a store or an outdoor company paying for the rights to the story and pictures, but I don't understand why anyone would shell out 100k for the actual rack.

Anyone who has ever been a serious collector of anything understands how the value of something can quickly get outa hand!

Though i'm not into racks other than those that i've taken, i sure can see why some might want to accumulate and surround themselves with those of the highest caliber. When several of these upper collector guys with the extra coin get to bidding against each other for a rare and extremely prestigious example like this huge Muley Buck, Yes, i can see $100K...maybe even more!

I wouldn't sell any rack of mine ever! If I shot that buck, I would laugh at the guy who offered me 100k, and laugh even harder at the one who offered me 100 million. There is nothing like the original, no amount of $ is worth it. Now if they were interested in my truck, I'd be willing to talk 100k ;-), I would even throw in the wife's car for that price.

I love every one of my sets, but I'd hand em over in a heartbeat for 100 grand. And 100 million, a fraction of a heartbeat.

Nope wouldn't do it, and no BS either, just isn't worth it to me. I couldn't live with the fake hanging on my wall. I would be mad all the time about it. No different than getting a replica of a big fish that you never caught.

I like horsecreeks idea though, will consider all offers on the wife and especially trades for premier hunt (sheep, goat, grizzly).

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned anything about the score.

Just for shits and giggles, does anybody see 307? Is that a Net score? No Doubt that's what it scores but i don't see it...

Joey

Its tough to judge from pics, but yeah...I'm not seeing 307... maybe 290???

I'm sorry, but ANYONE would be a moron not to sell ANY rack for 100,000,000.00 Thats the silliest things I've ever heard Mtman..

I do not nor will never have a rack that I would not sell for much less than that....geesh, just some bones. I've got the memories and photos.... what good does the rack do me? I can use that 10,000 or 10,000,000 or whatever to pay for travel and tags and licenses for MANY other great hunts!!!

Joey,

Golden, the guy who owns the buck, gave me a replica many years ago for building him a website. The buck is a giant....giant. I've never measured the replica, but I would say it's the 307.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-27-10 AT 08:38PM (MST)[p]Founder, like i said, i'm sure it is! Maybe it's all these scoring games that we've been playing but when i had finally got over all the drooling that i had done and gotten re-hydrated, i started adding up what i could see.

We all know, we should know by now, just how hard it is to score a buck off a pic. What was i saying? I'm looking at the pic again and apparently can't think while i'm drooling! :)

Joey

Edit; Believe I'd take this buck over any i've seen in these pages in the several years that i've been a member. No disrespect meant, just sayin!!

Ya, this replica is pretty unreal....seriously, it's not real!!! LOL
I did see the original down to Golden's house once. Pretty neat buck...wide, heavy......
The droptines are really cool. One could almost call them the main beams.
I don't even hang the replica in the same room with my real deer, cause it makes them all look small. It would be awesome to see a deer like that on the hoof, some place I can hunt of course.

lmfao @ it not scoring 307. Its in Colorado's Biggest Bucks and Bulls (It was killed in Colorado, go figure) its been officially scored and listed at 307. Its got 30 scorable points and is 43" yeah thats right 43" wide. Its 300 and then some.

Mtn and horsecreek. Please attach photos of wives. probably got something we could trade. Lol. Jk
Had to say it :)

Unless someone is independently wealthy it would be foolish not to take 100K for a rack. It is one thing to say I would not sell, but if the cash was stacked on the table for real most people, I think, would take it. I really think that the selling of such things should not be legal - it is likely one of worst things for the sport. Money and greed change everything.

LOL! Trophy buck hunting is like golfing I guess. No matter how good you play, you always realize you could have done better. If I had Tiger Woods score card, I would keep it hidden in a drawer too.

Eel

it's not a 40 incher but it's closer than the last 40 incher you posted....

JB

Acutally it is alot like getting a fiberglass replica of a fish you DID catch instead of the skin mount. People seem to be fine with that, how is that different than having a replica mount of the rack?

Same thing, take the money, buy a governors tag.

A couple years ago he wanted 60k for this buck and I darn near bought it at that . But I did some further investigation on the buck , talking to the bigger collectors, all whom and know this buck has been for sale for several years now . It's got some issues and if Golden is lucky, he will get 30k for this rack. The original rack fell off a wall, busted the skull plate, busted the left mainbeam and the flying inline left cheater. All the big collectors are aware of this , is why it has not sold yet .It does score 307' , officially scored by steve stayner .

I'm sorry but I just can't see 307". It looks more like 306" to me! LOL

You guys must have a helluva lot more money that me. For 100K that buck would be long gone. I also seriously doubt that we all wouldn't give it some real consideration if someone offered us that kind of money for one of our trophys!

Think about it.... Invest the money, get a return of about 800 bucks to 1K per month. You could do a ton of hunting for 12,000.00 per year, every single year! We'd be in the league of the "Founder" if we had that kind of cash! Right Brian? LOL

BTW; You guys that are offering up your wives for cash.... maybe you should get her consent first. I had mine sold once and had to give the money back when she wouldn't play along. Haha

Best regards, Zeke

It fell off the freaking wall and busted the skull plate, left main beam and cheater? OUCH!!! If that were my rack I'd of had it laying next to me in my bed on a bunch of soft fluffy pillows with me watching over it at all times!!! I can't imagine actually watching it fall off the wall... That's terrible...

Right on, I 100% agree Oldman!

AZMIGHTYMULIES, it sounds like you have some insight into the collecting process of racks like this. It's interesting to hear your comments about how the rack has been damaged.

My first thought when I saw the post here on MM was "why are they trying to sell a $100,000 head on KSL.com???" That doesn't really make sense. That being said, I'm not sure where you would try to sell a head for that much money.

Do you have any more insight into who buys these things and how they are usually purchased? You hear stories all the time like "Oh Cabelas offered the guy a $100k for the rack" but i'd really be interested to know how many times that has actually happened.

For me it's no question- $100,000 would pretty much set me up for life. That, coupled with a reasonable income would provide security for my family for our lifetime, and for my children long after I'm gone.
Half invested in a home, and half in Mutual Funds or ROTH IRAs or some other retirement portfolio... The compound interest on $50,000 starting now would gimme like $750,000 if I retired at age 60...
No question... Replicas on my wall- original to the buyer.

Browning I would like to talk to your financial advisor if he can turn 50k into that kind of money.

Hell, people fork up a LOT more cash than that for dumber chit.....Bo Jackson's jock strap, Elvis Presley's toothbrush, etc, etc, etc. People will buy anything!

Why not spend that kind of money and ranch up your own "Golden Buck"?

A little dna work, some steroids and about 3 years....if you live by a nuke facility...and there you have it. Live!

Sell photo sessions, sheds, sperm kits, etc. The possibilities are endless!

"....you'll shoot your eye out kid!"

I know Golden very well. Haven't seen in nearly four years however. This makes me wonder what is going on. FYI, repro's were made on this deer years ago. He has several other HUGE deer he has taken over the years, must be hard times...

That appears to be the Real Deer. The pic, I guarantee, was taken in his driveway. Cape is rough like the original, etc.

I was just joking about the thing not scoring 307... I thought the guy above me was joking too!!!

isayNunya, if someone had given you 5k when you were like 8 and 9 years old and invested it, if history repeated itself and you earned an average of 7% you would have 1 million at age 65.

A few years ago he gave me a print of the buck, along with a score sheet. I reviewed it annd found a math error. It should be 304.

As I said, I would sell it for 100K. A million? That's a no brainer! But, the head is not mine to sell so it's easy for me to say.

Browning rage, 100K is NOT set for life even if you invest it the way you are suggesting. That kind of money is about 3 good sheep hunts! THINK BIGGER MAN! I've always enjoyed your comments except that one.

Respectfully, Zeke

"It should be 304."

I Knew It!!! :),J/K, Joke, made to be funny!!

Come on people, reading comprehension! A guy can't make a comment/conversation about a Buck without some other guy not understanding what he's trying to say and getting shitty! How many of you see 30 scoreable points on that head?

I'm sure that they are there, i just can't see them from this pic! sheesh!! Same with the score!

Joey

@isayNUNYA- I know the numbers may be high, but I'm young... I was going off of the rule of sevens where your money doubles every seven years based High Annual Return... giving me 4 doubling cycles-

1st 7 years: 50,000 to 100,000
2nd 7 years: 100,000 to 200,000
3rd 7 years: 200,000 to 400,000
4th 7 years: 400,000 to 800,000

Worst case scenario it double every 11 years, with just under 3 doubling cycles... in which case I only get about 350,000 LOL

"Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!" 2 Ne. 28: 24

I'd sell one like that for a $100k in a minute. I'd throw a replica on the wall and not think twice about it. My ol' lady tells me when I die she's getting rid of all my junk anyway. Fair enough, if she goes first, all my heads are going up on any wall exactly where I want them...

Yea nice thought but in the country where I live you have to pay taxes on it every year as it grows. Where are you going to get the money for that so you have the 800K?

Bring cash and I will wrap it up for ya. I would sell it in a heartbeat for 100K
