What a beast. Check out the mass, forks, and extras on this
incredible rack. Colorado IMO is still the state for big mule
deer. Just an awesome trophy. Congrats to the hunter.

Great buck! Congratulations to the hunter!
I need to get back over to Colo! I'm missing out on some good deer hunting.

Zeke

What a Hog! That looks like the same guy that had the Utah governors tag in 2009 that took the 227" or so buck on public general season unit. Congrats to him.

Im pretty sure it is the same guy thats on the DVD cover of the latest muley heaven.

Team_UNC

How do so many threads, especially one showing an awesome buck, get turned into MossBack hating ones. The guy is doing his job and is good at it. He and his team work there arses off to get their clients on some big animals.

Congrats Dr Kay.

I'm rich..............think I'll buy a coveted tag.
I'm rich..............think I'll hire an outfitter with 50 guides
I'm rich..............think I'll let them find me a shooter
I'm rich..............think I'll wait till they call and tell me they found one
I'm rich..............think I'll fly out and kill it(not hunt)

Great deer hunt, er kill. Would like to hear about the hunt, I mean kill.

Am I jealous, of the deer, you bet. Of the hunter, not a bit.

I never seen it but some colorado guys said they had a couple choppers in the air and was offering 10,000 reward for any 200" buck's location!

Guys, we need to be careful about unsubstantiated rumors.
There's nothing more important to a hunter or guide than
one's integrity and reputation.
Unless these rumors can be substantiated by the CDOW,
we should otherwise congratulate the fortunate hunter on
his tremendous trophy, irrespective if he was guided or not.

Nails, do you know Robert and how he hunts?
He had the gov tag last year. First time I met him I was on the henry Mountains scouting for the upcoming Le deer hunt. A guy pulled over in the road and wanted to chat so I stopped and rolled down the window. We talked for awhile and finally he said "I have the gov tag for deer this year and I'm just out here having a look around" He was alone and I thought yeah right so I blurted out, "yeah and I have the sportsman permit". Anyway he finally told me his name and I knew indeed it was the holder of the gov tag. I ended up spending a good amount of time over the next couple months with Robert. He passed on many great deer. The buck that was killed by the sportsman tag that went 203, the buck Jason Carter killed this year that scored 240 and was in the 220 range last year. Hunting numerous other bucks that didnt make the grade and many rumors of giant bucks. Robert was there the entire time. Finally killing a giant 227 buck last year. This year Robert passed on a buck on the eastern plains in late oct. because he wanted to hunt more! The buck ended up being killed and went 250" I heard. Anyway Robert is a great guy and a hard hunter who happend to get a little luck in life and with that and hard work came into enough money to do what we all would givin the chance. Buy thousands of dollars worth of mule deer tags and hunt the biggest mule deer in the world! So Nails until you know the real story STFU!

OMG the same jealousy surfaces over and over. Seen plenty of these type of responses and this will be my first and last attempt to try to put some sound reasoning out there. If you agree fine if not that is fine too.

First of all, the majority of people that buy these tags have worked very very hard their whole lives without regard to personal time, vacations, even family time, etc. Further yet it can only be assumed that they became successful in their chosen field be it business selling millions of widgets or saving cancer patients' lives. After obtaining wealth and possibly without the time to spend out "scouting" they decide that they like others would like to harvest a trophy animal so they call MossBack, Timberline, Elmer Fudd, etc. to guide and procure the tag for them.

So now they have the animal down and somehow or other someone posts the pic and it says MossBack at the top. All of a sudden guys come out of the woodwork to say nice animal but that's not hunting my way so I dont like the method of how they chose to take it- i.e. gov tag w/guide. This makes absolutely no sense to me and here is the jist of my argument- WHILE YOU GUYS WERE "SCOUTING" SOMEONE ELSE WAS WORKING AND MAKING MONEY. NOW THEY WANT TO SPEND THAT MONEY ON A BIG GAME TROPHY HUNT. Hell what is scouting anyways but showing up in the mountains, instead of being a million other time consuming places, to look for the "big" one. Instead of "scouting" he was at work.

B&%ch and moan about MossBack the rest of your lives but people will use them and do like them. I was fortunate enough to hunt the Pauns with them on "09 and I hunted my butt off with a guy that knows the unit and where to look. They didnt call me to fly into Kanab's airport but there sure as hell picked me up at the hotel at 4 am every day to go after the "big" one. I got a nice deer but he never graced this forum.

Oh and I didn't ride any helicopters. Lastly, of course there are finders fees for big a$$ game. Everyone from Montana to Sonora knows that. Plenty of small town boys have capitalized on this fact!

isaynunya,

I think the last sentence was the best part of your post...

"So Nails until you know the real story STFU"!

Especially the STFU part!

How is Mossback able to legally guide in CO? I thought you have to be a registered outfitter to guide hunters in CO? Mossback doesnt show up on coloradooutfitter.org and they dont show hunt services in CO on there web page.Do they operate under the license of an existing outfitter? That would be a nightmare for a governers tag because i believe that CO outfitters are assigned to specific areas.

Not saying that they did any wrong just curious as to how they make it work.

Also that buck looks like it only has around 20" of extras so the main frame has to be around 220"?? Big ol deer.

"Oh and I didn't ride any helicopters. Lastly, of course there are finders fees for big a$$ game."

You probley didnt tip $10,000 or you would of got a chopper ride!

Just cause the photo was on the mossback site and because it has a logo pasted on it, doesn't mean they guided the hunter. First of all, the guy could just be one of Doyle's friends, sent a photo, so Doyle put it on his site with his logo on it. OR, maybe the guy called Doyle and asked Doyle to track down a good guide in Colorado, Doyle did, hooked them up and so the guy sent Doyle a photo.
Heck, Browtines photo was in a Mossback brochure a few years ago and I can absolutely promise you that Mossback had nothing to do with that deer. Brandon just let Doyle use the photo and because he does work for Doyle, he's part of the "crew".

You guys are way overly obsessed with Mossback. And, don't be a rumor spreader. You know who you are!! Would you want people posting rumors about you on the site?

ok regardless of all the non stop bickering on MM THAT IS A TRUE MM THERE !!! What a toad

Explain what about the mossback pic??? Sorry nails but you sound like you've never hunted with a guide or outfitter. I may or may not know a thing or two about that and in my experience it is ten times harder for a guide to kill quality animal then it is for a hunter....more people more time more noise more stress. My hats off to any guide or hunter who can get it done no matter how hard. Good on the possee for showin up again and again and again. It says but one thing. They work longer and harder than the rest of us.

How do you know that he passed the buck Jason Carter killed. I call B.S. Tell me how........... No way in hell he would pass that buck.....

Hell of a buck, and great job whoever killed but I CAN'T SEE "245" GROSS ANYWHERE IN THAT PIC. Maybe 215 tops....am I missing something?

O.K. I'll admit that I jumped to a conclusion without knowing any facts, only the rumors that I read. For that I apologize. If the hunter truly works as hard as nunya says, then my hat is off to him. Also, if Mossback does things the right way then props to them also. Again, apologies for spouting off without knowing the facts.

Nails.

Congrats to the hunter and the guides, for all putting the time in to get a great trophy! Hopefully one of these day's I will be lucky enough to harvest such a sweet animal.

That's commendable Nails to come back on with that.

Congrats again to the hunter's success not only in the hunting world but in a career to allow him to hunt areas that I will only dream of year after year. Most of these guys that can buy these tags didn't just fall into a pile of money. they have what they have because they have spent their entire lives at the sacrifice of many other things that most of us are not willing to give up for that long.

ROFLMAO, guess there is a reason you get so many of your posts nuked, but your grammar is improving.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-29-10 AT 09:29PM (MST)[p]Thats kinda creepy you know more about my posts getting nuked than I do. First you comment on my awesome grammar now your keeping tabs on my post kinda gay dude just saying.
One more thing stop hi jacking others posts with your i'm better than you attitude.

Clearly, the single worst thing about this great site, is the number of jealous, whiny, sniveling, little girls that frequently post here.

Some of you need a solid kick in the cod sack, but since you got nothin' in there, it would be a waste of energy.

"....you'll shoot your eye out kid!"

I don't see 245" either!! Maybe 225"....if the buck has 25" of junk and a 200" frame....but there is no way that buck has a 220" typical frame. Great Buck though, love the mass on those CO mulies! Congrats to the hunter.

I held this buck in my hands tonight! The pics do not do this thing justice. I was in the same boat as you, thinking, "No way". But I'm here to tell you, this pig is every bit of 245"! An absoulute hog of a deer! If he had better beams, WOW! By far one of my favorite bucks I have ever seen or held! It was sitting next to Austads 205 Henrys buck and this thing dwarfed it! Head up to the expo in Feb and check this thing out for yourself! It's a sight to see!

This is not a nice buck. This is a super buck any hunter would love to kill. You guys on here that are jealous should just look at the pictures and not reply becuse you look very dumb to anyone else that reads these post. You guys are also the reason more people do not post pictures for others to see. It is sickening to listen to you. Why dont you guys post some of your bucks from "THIS" year and see how it feels when everybody bashes you.

Thats just it they dont mind coming on here bashing on others for there animal of a life time or telling them there stupid and can't spell but they never post up pics of there harvests. I thinks its cause when they were growing up there mothers didnt love them.

Is it a rumour when people see it with there own eyes?

Great buck and i'm glad to see him kill a pig!

Aaron84 your post's on this thread should get an award from MM!

This buck didn't get this big by accident. He had to be very smart or very lucky, either way 100's of hunters had the opportunity if they wanted to hunt him.

Awesome buck, congratulations to the hunter and everyone who helped. I pray someday I get the opportunity.

That's a great deer!! Congrats.
It's pretty funny that the larger the deer posted, the more cry babies comes out. It seems to me that it takes a lot of effort to whine, b!tch, and moan. You have to first read the original post, read all other posts, find something to cry about, hit the "reply" button, type out your 2 cents (crying), hit "post" button, and wait to read responses. Then after a response, you repeat the steps above. Can't a guy just look at some big deer, congratulate one another, and move on? Jeeeez, this site should be named "cry baby muleys" or "jealous over muleys". If this forum had sound, it would sound like a hen house!

Smitty---I've only been on this site a couple weeks, but what you and several of the other guys have said sure seems to be spot on!!! Unless a person has "first hand" evidence that something is amiss or a person has been convicted in a court of law due to a game law violation, then they should definitely STFU, LOL!!!

I think my I.Q. just dropped by 10 points when I just clicked on the "reply" icon. But since I am here let me tell a few of you how/why this works.
It is called sub-agency knuckle-draggers. Mossback is an agent for a client. (special agent technically) To go into "strange territory" he needs an umbrella organization (outfitter)who has the proper permits for the proper geographic area where a big buck lives.

This oufitter agrees to become an agent for the same client, (this agreement is easier to come by if green stuff changes owners)

Some schmuck out there has just so happened to see a big deer and needs Christmas money to buy his kids some shoes, (or himself some EL's). He also signs on under the second outfitter, (or at least he better as in this state it's a felony) to sell his expertise/knowledge aquired by dumb luck.

In some cases this knowledge is aquired the old fashioned way of walking a gazzilion miles through snow uphill both ways!

The buck gets whacked, the checks get written, and the pissing and moaning by everybody that didn't get either a steak or some money begins.

Now here's some gas for your brush fire- your dollar guesses are wrong... by quite a bit.

If you want to complain (and you do) complain about the whores at the respective game agencies that specifically prohibit certain behaviours as unacceptable but allow it IF and only IF you pay them huge amounts of cash. It is pure bribery and it has been around forever. Lay off the capitalists as long as the laws are followed.

Now if the check bounces... 'nother story!

By the way is that a beautiful animal or what!! Nice BUCK!!

Glad he got a awesome Buck. Congrats to all that helped him and to him for working so hard to get this buck.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

+1 nails beutiful buck totally unimpressed with the " hunt ". i have more respect for someone doing a drive by on a forkyhorn standing in the road. it was a super nice buck!

Squirrel just explained it perfectly.... great buck congratulations to the shooter... but to say all the hard work paid off for mossback is just ridiculous when they are just going off of someone telling them where a big buck is...everyone is a member of "team mossback" with the right amount of money or there name mentioned in a video.....

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-10 AT 09:36AM (MST)[p]wow some of the responces are frankly bizzare to me. if you have unlimited money and you have to have the sevices of a multitude of guides and spend ridiculous amounts of money to kill a modest trophy your a hero ????? i think not.........

thank goodness we don't have that garbage in idaho yet

Exactly. I don't blame the hunter or the guides. What gives the game agencies the right to whore out our wildlife? They don't own them, we do. Has anybody ever voted to allow Governor's Tags? I don't ever remember it being on the ballot.

+100 great post!!!!!

Even after all was said you still have to find a way to display your jealousy nice real nice.

Once again that is one hell of a buck I don't care how much he did or didn't pay he earned that buck!!!

Beavis, just curious as far as the "Modest Trophy" comment. WTF? I would have thought that any MD scoring over 240 would be more than modest? At what point do you consider a buck big? Thanks for the reply.

Also, has there been any pictures of the other CO GOV (Raffle Tag) bucks here in MM land?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-10 AT 03:07PM (MST)[p]It's all about the money, and they are going to get it one way or another. If they do not sell the Gov. tags, that bring in a couple hundred thousand dollars, are you willing to pay more for your general license and tag fees?

As a matter of fact, yes. That's the fair way to do it.

How much money does the Fish&Game need? If they need a lot more money, do you think they should auction off 1/4 of the tags? I'm sure they would love to have a blank check, so how about 1/2 the tags? There are way more people who want tags than are available every year, so why not just let the market work and auction them off for what the market will bear?

Don't forget most agencies are government. When was the last time you heard of a government agency that had too much money?:)

That's the slippery slope that we might be going down is my point.

i thought this site was to enjoy pictures and stories of big bucks and bulls. that is hard to do with all the bickering, bitching, name calling and smack talking going on. if anyone has a problem with someone else, settle it through pms or e-mails or phone calls or show up at the dudes house and just jack him up the old fashioned way. i don't want to spend my time on here watching posts of back and forth jibber-jabber.
come on people. take it to the octagon and don't wast my time watching you push each other back and forth. grow up.

Lets be honest. The reason people complain is that we all love hunting. To see these governor tags and guides doing what they do gives us realization that our beloved sport is going to be had by just the rich in the near future. I along with others, but not all, am one that does not have tens of thousands of dollars to hunt deer and still provide a decent living for my family. It scares me of the idea that I may not be able to pursue my passion of hunting because of that reason. I don't down anyone for how they hunt if allowed to by game agencies. Yes, this guy was at work making money while I was out scouting probably. That's where I chose to be because I love the outdoors so much. But does that mean now, that I should not be able to enjoy hunting anymore because it has been given over to the rich for revenue by the state? Those are our deer. As a working, tax paying, license buying and sporting goods consuming adult we all own them. We give the state the right to manage. Auctioning tags off is not right.Just my two cents.I do think people should talk about this issue and if not on a forum such as this; where else? Let the voices be heard before our way of living is gone!

I agree let the voices be heard. This is a forum.

It seems those who have there panties most in a wad or those upset that some one would question the Governers Tag program. I guess they just can't handle someone questioning it. I wonder why?

Personally, I don't think having a lot of money should afford anyone a greater opportunity with a public resource. If they want to help wildlife then let them do it out of truly altruistic reasons and just donate the money...

Now should I get angry at someone?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-02-11 AT 04:27PM (MST)[p]Gov tags and greedy guides are RUINING our heritage, the sport is in a downward spiral and if we dont act fast our kids wont be able to afford it.Your legislators can change this, talk to the people who can actually make a difference before its too late.

Some of you guys are pathetic. This hunter has done more for conservation and mule deer in one hunt than most of us will do in our lifetime.Someday when our hunting heritage is really threatened this is the kind of guy that we are gonna need on our team and some of you want to talk crap about this guy. Come on i know jealousy sucks but this guy is on our side. Congrats to Robert and all the hunters who drop hundreds of thousands of dollars into conservation and habitat for all our wildlife.

and how much did you profit ??? our big game animals aren't whores and the fish and game shouldn't be pimps ! and people who plant bitterbrush every year do way more than this schmo

I prefer raffles or lotteries to raise extra cash, or just get rid of all the gov tags and raise tag prices, could not be that much. It is a public animal.. but still a heck of a buck. I have no problem with man who shot the buck..

That's one incredible buck, congratulations to the hunter, Doyle and his entire crew that worked on this hunt.

All I'm going to say about Mossback, mainly for the benefit of our newer MM'ers, is that the one time I was around Doyle and his crew (during their hunt for a particular big elk on Monroe a couple years ago) they were hunting very hard, were sportsmen and Doyle was very gracious with his advice and offer of help to me should I want or need any. He struck me as someone I'd love to share a campfire with, and I don't say that about a lot of people. If everyone conducted themselves the way he and his crew did when I encountered them, hunting would be better for it.
