Man that is a sweet pic! Thanks for sharing, wish thats how it still was.

Pretty nice photo. 1959....probably WWII veterans too. They look about the right age.

Eel

it's not a 40 incher but it's closer than the last 40 incher you posted....

That would be neat NV. I just love those old pictures and all the current ones are pretty darn good too, LOL!!!

My first day tagging along with my dad hunting deer in Utah was in 1958. I can remember driving around in the afternoon of the first day, going from camp to camp to see what was hanging. It was an amazing time for deer hunting back then. It sounded like a war was raging for the first two hours of daylight. Now if you hear a dozen shots it has been a good opener. Different times for sure!
Thanks for sharing the memories!

A glimpse into an era of incredible mule deer hunting that
we will probably not see again. All great bucks.

It's not a field photo, but I have a pic of one that my dad's hired man found winter killed in 1959 after hunting him for 3 years. He was 11x13 and 34" wide. They found the carcus while gathering cattle the next spring. I have a photo of the rack that he still has in his house, but can't get it posted. I could email it to someone with more posting knowlege than I have, though.

Blackhawk send it to me and I will post it for you just click on the icon to the right of my name here.

Love the picture of the horse packing out a huge buck like that one.

Here's one I posted from NV Area 6 (1965): Not as good as "Opening Day", but "8 hunters & 8 days somewhere out of Tuscarora". I experienced some great hunts in those days ('60's-80's).We were never able to close the deal on such nice bucks. I remember one particular hunt, when, as we pulled into a canyon with a party of 8 of us, a group of 13 hunters was leaving and all had tagged out. I remarked that we would be lucky to see any remaining bucks if we hunted there... we saw plenty of deer, lots of small bucks, a few giants...our group went 7 for 8 in the same area. Memories that will last the rest of my life, and none of my today hunts have even come close. I remember passing on groups of smaller bucks of up to 10 in one bunch looking for the big one; remembering seeing so many deer, it seems now like hundreds a day! The"glory days" of mule deer hunting for me!

Here's a pic of my Dad and life-long hunting buddy (passed away now at 87 last year) and his and his buddy's bucks from those "good ol' days."(NV Area 6)

Pete. I would have that one enlarged and framed. Sorry about your loss. Awesome pic. Thanks for posting it

Wow, some great photos. I love the one with the buck tied on the saddle horse!

Thanks for posting

Way cool thread. My dad used to work for what became the Forbes Trinchera ranch. He had lots of pictures similar to the first one. Good times.

Now that's what I call a successful hunt. A truckload of big
racked bucks. Those sure where the days.

No, the guy who has it won't let it out of the house. I have tried several times, even offered to buy it, but he still stands firm!!

I've recently acquired some pics of a couple deer that are from the 40's out of the state California. one is over 47 inchs wide and scores in the low 240's . the other is 38 inchs wide . these are hanging in a pawn shop in california . I will need to email them to someone here to poste. Any takers ?

Your grandfather should have patented that game cart!Probably the oldest pic I have seen of a modern looking game cart.

Those are some awesome looking bucks. California has produced
some monster deer in the past. Thanks for posting the pics.

That is a dandy buck. Great mass, width, and forks on that
rack. It was customary back then for successful hunters to
show off their trophies in the various casinos and win cash
for the biggest buck shown.

Man O man, this is potntially one of the best threads I have ever seen. I absolutley love to look at these Vintage Photo's. I am amazed at the size of the Muleys that roamed the hills 40-50 years ago. Like others have said I wih we could get those days again, but I don't think it will ever happen. Thanks again for posting these pictures folks.
