Too bad there's no way to record the body size as a statistic.
I'll never forget my Dad's biggest buck, killed in the early 70's. He was a 31" wide 4x4 that field dressed at 236 lbs. He thought he had to have the largest bodied deer, but when his buck was weighed at the Stockmen's cooler in Elko, NV that year, there was one buck hanging at 252, and another at 264, and a third at 284... Monsters!! I'll never forget seeing my first 200+ buck hanging,so front-heavy with that swollen neck, huge front shoulders, and impressive rack, along with that seemingly bleached-out roman nose...HUGE!

for me it is all about the antlers. unless it's a fish ive never cared to know the weight of an animal.

In Minnesota and probably all of the midwest that is how they always do it. There are big buck contests at every bar/gas station and the winner is usually a 240+lb buck. Every couple years the winner is a 260 - 270 lb. Every once in awhile there are even does that top the scales at 170lbs field dressed or more.
Those big bucks are impressive and something to see.

1st year I ever got to hunt out of state was 1967. In the camp at Blanding next to us there was a buck hanging from a scale, field dressed, legs cut off at the knees, 311 lbs. I believed the scale because it looked like a mule hanging from a tree.

I love seeing those huge, massive bodies. It definitely adds to the essence of a strong mature buck.

You mean like this one?

Vince that 1st one has Steer like mass. He looks pretty close to that 300 mark.
Killed a WT in South Dakota that was huge took 3 us to load it in the back of a HighBoy Ford, weighted in at 291 and didn't win a place(top 3 got a prize) in the Biggest buck contest it took like 6th in the county.

Holy Fatheads Vince, I thought mine was a fat-neck, he's a pencil neck compared to those two of yours, what was their habitat/food to get that heavy??

LAST EDITED ON Jan-06-11 AT 07:30PM (MST)[p]Here is a buck I took in Montana. He is a 170 buck that weighed 306 lbs. field dressed. When I shot him, I had no idea he was so big! He had 26 inch ears and made his 27 inch rack look small. My first big buck and still my heaviest.

We "quartered" him and put him in elk bags. This is what he looked like on the meat pole.

Holy cow, Vince! That guy took sixth in the county? That's a pic of the biggest hog-body I've seen yet!!Thanks for posting...great bucks!!

Hey Moose, that buck is huge. Check out the size of the
neck and shoulders. A real hog of a buck.

If I recall correctly there is a picture in the book "Colorado's Biggest Bucks & Bulls" that shows a huge nontypical muley hanging and claims it is the heaviest known deer ever harvested in colorado. I believe the stated weight was somewhere around 453 pounds. It was shown hanging from a game pole next to an average 5pt bull elk and based on side by side comparison, a weight of 450+ was believable. Incredible body size for sure. Does anyone else have a copy of this book and can double check me on this? My copy was lost in a move a few years ago.
