Scouting?

How early do you guys start scouting? Just curious when everybody starts. Thanks.

Never! I even started ice fishing a lake in a unit I'm interested in just to become more familiar with the unit and game. For whitetails in Eastern Colorado, now is the time that trails, rubs, scrapes, etc., really show up without all of the vegetation clogging up the creek bottoms. Besides, it's either that or honey-do's.

I still am moving my trail camera around to find a buck for my dad next fall.
I spend a lot of my winter ice fishing but still like to get out and hike around to see what made it through the winter and find new possible honey holes.

I haven't scouted since 2007 kind of lost my love for hunting but fortunatly I found it. I plan on starting mid May. No point in scouting any earlier most deer and elk don't even have any horn to look at. So I don't see a point to go any sooner than mid May. I do shed hunt till about mid June take a break from the heat than start back up in September so thats kinda like scouting in a sense.

Gotta get up way earlier than that if it's the summer months. ;)

To answer the question, I scout year round. Only slow months are mid May to late June. But I'm always bound to find some interesting ground when I bear hunting.
