Dilemma...you've just completed a 7 mile walkabout and seen nothing...being disgusted tired and pissed and headed straight back to camp with your head to the ground...up jumps this buck 50ft away and here's your shot...you take it?

If you didn't...here's the 100 yd pose...now what are you gonna do?

Not much of a dilema unless you mess up and he walks away wounded and you can't track him down.

There will be a lot of guys who will post on here in false bravado and say they never would take this shot, but the simple truth is that 95% will and about 85% of them will put him down and no one will ever know the difference.

Get the hey out of there and stop bugging the deer on the winter range :)

LAST EDITED ON Jan-10-11 AT 12:08PM (MST)[p]Wait until he turn broadside. I guess I'm part of the 5% that would wait.

Depending on how long I had to think about it I might try the head shot on #1. Clear neck shot on #2.

My hunting spot is so secret, not even the elk have found it yet.

My shot on my deer this year was almost identical to that 50 yard example except there wasn't any brush in the way.

Entry was just behind the last rib and I found the bullet against the skin on his chest.

7mm Mag shooting 150gr E-tips.

He dropped so fast I never saw him fall.

Let the son B grow up!

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

Liecabucks, what are you talking about that buck is waaaaay bigger than anything you have notched your tag on. Lol shoot now and ask questions later. I have seen many big bucks get away never to be seen again because of people passing on a shot like that. With all the technology and target practice that shot should be a chip shot.

The first pic does make him look alot bigger. I honestly would probably wait for him to stop though, and would most likely later regret not shooting him if he didnt and take a lesser buck the last day of a hunt. Thats my kind of luck. If he did stop, ide shoot. Difficult situation.

Can I ask your wife first on her thoughts....LOL? Remember that time Mike? I would considering the choices.

I'm what some would call a proud TARD
Id aim at that black spot in the middle of that white patch at the 100 yards shot
If he keeps going I've got three more rounds

ITS ALL ABOUT MEAT-IN WITH THE TAXIDERMIST

I'm not a TARD but......this buck woulda been history when he jumped outta the sage with me....270 to the base of the brainpan and lights out...
And as Kilo stated....go home and get ridiculed by the wife for shooting it HEHEE...she would commend me for saving all the meat..

I would have my gun up when he first come up and following him in the scope until he stopped at 100, then a bullet from the .30-06 into his neck there.

If it was the extended archery, I would pierce his neck at 100+ yards and call the news to get it some publicity. If it was the general rifle season, I would pierce his ear with the 300 rum because I couldn't hold steady for a good shot while he was running away. Then I would probably shoot his antler off and realize I ruined the headgear and keep hunting for another monster buck to fill my tag with.

Well, see, there is this little hole right behind where the tail starts and a round from my '06 will not be deflected by a deers tail.

It is not my prefered choice, but sometimes that is all you are going to get.

The whitetail guys LOVE that first view!.....and don't hesitate!

Taken that shot several times (and will again) and the only meat loss has been the heart and liver.

There is a huge artery on either side of said hole and an arrow into the hip will sever it. Bleed out in 50 yards.

OH NO !!!! I hear the sirens of the "ethics police"....gotta run!
