Are there any states that have over the counter tags? I am new to hunting these species and live in Virginia. I am not familiar with drawing for licenses. Any suggestions on where to hunt for these two species? I am particularly interested in eastern Montana and Wyoming. I want to DYI and would like to find some private lands that do not cost a great deal.

If you are serious about wanting to hunt in the West, you need to get familiar with the drawing process. While it is possible to purchase over-the-counter licenses in some places, they are often leftover licenses in areas with difficult access or poor hunting. Better areas almost always require participation in the draw. If you don't want to do it yourself, there are services that will handle the applications for you.
