Has anyone used Double Diamond outfitters? How were they and did they provide a good service.

We are looking into using the for a Drop Camp mule deer hunt.

What is Region G like these days.

Is it worth the money.

I'm 35 and in good shape and workout alot. I currently backpack hunt and love a challenge. I beleave i can handle the terrain up in Region G.

Please any advise will help.

Just dont want to throw away any money on just a camping trip.

Thanks
Bubba

By the way I'm new to posting but have been reading the forum for a few months. Love this site.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-22-11 AT 04:28PM (MST)[p]I don't know about the outfitter, but there is at least a thousand other hunters just like you, and there all gonna do the same thing.

Hunting in G is mediocre at best. I would look to Colorado. But if you do go to G and are in good shape just hike in since most good hunting areas are only 5 or 6 miles back in.

I was in Sacramento today for the ISE Sports Show and was talking with an Outfitter that has bought out another Outfitters location. He mentioned that Double Diamond was selling out to someone else also. Guess 2011 might be his last unless the "new owner" wants it this year. Be careful.

If only there was a area on this forum where you could ask specific questions and discuss topics only about Wyoming....

Good people and I know they will put you in a good Drop Camp area.

That opening week of G can be a freaking zoo though!

Like the mall, except everyone in hunter orange and camo...lol

Shoot for the tail end of the hunt. There will be very few hunters and the deer will start settling to normal behaviors.

Thanks for all the information. I don't know what I'll do yet. I talked with Double Diamond outfitters at the Sacrament show and they said they would put us in an area that would produce 180+ bucks, thats if you hunt hard. Looking at the maps and google earth you really can't get away from the road system in that country. It looks like you can only pack in a few miles and after you do that you are then a few miles from another road. Am I correct because i want to be at least 5 mile from the nearest road.

My dads friend hunted with them several years back and took a very respectable buck. It's the heavy bladed buck being held by the burly guy with the red beard and mustache..in front of the alpine backdrop.

bubba...do a search for sakomag here on MM and then click on the single envelope to the right of his name and send him a PM. Rick has in the past hunted a number of times with DD and took a BIG buck about 3 years ago that is still shown in their brochure. He can tell you what you want to know about the area.

Love G but I don't know if I would pay for a drop camp. Like others have said, you can access much of this country from lower lying roads and are less than a mile or two from decent hunting. 180 is a little high on the expectations I would say more like 170 is pretty typical if you hunt your ass off.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

My Pard and i did a drop camp in H awhile back and we sure didn't regret it. We were put where we wanted, at least 8 miles from the trailhead, at a place my pard had previously found and thought a great place to camp. One of the nice things was we had all our gear and the food that we could possibly want. Plus, we woke up every day right near pretty good hunting. We stayed there over 2 weeks and other than the first half a day when i took my buck, the hunting got better as the season went along with the bucks having calmed down and coming out pretty good by the time we left.

Not sure that the drop camp would be worth it if you have good gear and are able to put on some serious boot miles.
As far as Double Diamond goes, they are some great folks and will work their tails off for you.
If you aren't going to go DIY, I would recommend a guided hunt with them.
Good luck.
