I was out for the last day of Chukar season in Idaho today, while laying around in the rocks out of the wind a herd of Deer moved in just above me i started snapping pics and watching em.
Then the bigger buck in the herd started sniffin up a doe, i thought no way is he gonna try to poke that girl, bout that time he hopped on and give her what for,, she never showed any resistance, next thing you know hes poppin another one, and she also just stands there showing no resistance, I'm thinking no way!!!!!!!! Then he either nails another one or gets one of the others again.. i couldn't believe it..
For hells sake it's Jan. 31st.. Anybody else seen any of this going on this late??

I watched a buck last year knock off a piece the last week of january i'd been watching him all winter waiting for him to drop his horns and he was still drilling yearlings, saw a buck a couple weeks ago lip curling and chasing but never saw him try to mount up

What I think is wierder is if you look at the "doe" in the 3rd pic, the one who takes up the center of the pic. That one is behind the two point buck and is still WAY bigger then the two point. Ears are spread out further then the smaller does too. Something tells me thats a big ole buck who dropped already. That probably explains why he took off when the other buck tried to rut him!

It is not uncommon for does to come in to a second or later estrus cycle - even this late perhaps, the rut never completely ends until about mid March, it just peaks in November.

Geez, for a minute there I thought I had logged onto a xxx rated site, LOL!!! Yep, that one looks like a buck that has shed and they'll breed as long as they are hard antlered. There are probably so many does that some are coming in a second or third time because of too few bucks to poke all of them on the first go around!

Good that they did get breed and will have fawns this spring late, but you got to hope they(fawns) make thru next year winter.
