CONGRATS TO HIM ON A GREAT BUCK!!!
Who did he hunt with?
A desert muley is very high on my list.........but think Mexico is too high on the wallet. Looking into Arizona.

39. "RE: Dangerous hunting"

Yep havnt seen much yet this year(although I did see a 40.5 in wide straight 4x4 and a 208 very very heavy 31.5 incher and a very full good looking 230 five pt---Im sure there are a bunch of goodens) but I am not convinced it is anymore worth it safety wise. I know of eight dead hunters out of Hermosillo this month and twelve more missing plus the other bad stories. I feel that the deer will be very good in the future because there are some dedicated ranchers but I think the safe hunting aspect will be put on hold for awhile as it even gets worse. so to answer your question--- I feel the "hunting future" in old Mex is bad for the Americans and good for the deer-and great for those that choose to brave the dangers, which are very real!!!

Mexico hunting has always been a gambol but muchmore so now days!

Yikes! If this is true why is it not being talked about?! This is the first I've heard of anything like this involving hunters?!

I don't want to be a negative person but where are these people getting their statistics. So far I have not heard nor seen of any of the alledged deaths or missing persons. I have gone down there the last three years going through several different crossings and have yet to have, see or hear of any problems with hunters. If you look at the situation most all of the incidents involve rival cartel etc. Not hunters. If someone can show me the stories instead of the rumors I may have to think twice about going but so far it has been very easy and safe. My buddy that runs the hunting operation has personnaly crossed at least five times all with no trouble. I am not sure that some of the stories are by other hunters who would like to keep it all to themselves. Show me the stories!!!

Congrat's
That is as nice a buck as it gets in a typical these days. Memories of a life time..:)

Glad your dad got a great buck and survived the violence/killings/drug wars/bandidio's/curruption/and he wasn't one of the ones still missing or one the 8 hunters shot in the head in the back of that pickup truck last week.

)))).......>

I road tripped it down to Hermosilla over new years for a short Javelina hunt outside of Querobabi and for some quality time down at the La Habbana establishment and Lord Blacks just to make sure the plumbing was still up to par before heading north. Never felt safer crossing at Nogales! There are still monster framed pinche grande burro venado's down south. Helll of a lot more than can be said of what we got in utah. Maybe SFW needs to head down to Sonorah, Donny Peay can take some names, whoop some chitt and shut down the cartel single handedly and world peace and 220" bucks will follow!!!!

Also nearly forgot but that is one helluva a desert muley. Congrats to your father and thanks for the post!!!

Doggie.....

Your response to post # 28 gave me the biggest laugh I have had in awhile!!

Sad part is, it is spot on too......good luck in your upcoming hunts, my friend!

Thanks for that post!!!

Simply AMAZING desert muley!! Viva Sonora!! :)

Huh? Where are the facts? Eight hunters killed and twelve more missing??? :7 :7 Where did you here this? From the National Enquirer??? Unbelievable..... ;)

stanley-if you go to the Mexico forum on this site there has been some discussion of the dangers in Mexico of which I guess alot of people have not heard. Read all of the posts. You realize a number of American outfitters have pulled out of Mexico. There certainly are problems as I know of numerous verified horror stories with hunters. I have been attacked and chased myself last season while hunting muleys-although-I did brave it again this year and may next year for the sure thrill of searching out a fine buck. Appleman

Woooow Boys!

Back to the fantastic buck picture!
Congratulations Mark! That is a butt kickin' buck!

I was wondering the same thing as Bess---
The picture kind of made me think you chased him down and clubbed him with your backpack!!! LOL
Very nice.

Great buck. I hope he leaves the green on after taxidermy!

Very nice desert buck. Thanks for sharing.

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have
some good ideas!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-11 AT 07:30AM (MST)[p]The outfitter is Sonora Dark Horn Adventures, however this was a do it yourself hunt, non-guided. They are only going to do guided hunts next year on these ranches. As far as the eight hunters killed. I am not sure what can even be hunted in August in Mexico. I know that deer etc is not open to hunting then so I am not sure what the article was referring to as far as the people getting shot were hunting. Possibly hunting drugs. I just know that I have been down there the last four years straight and have had absolutely no problem. I guess that people should not be out in public here in the states either because if you read the paper there are plenty of killings here at home. How about Tucson for example. I am not saying that nothing is possible but then again I could actually get killed every day driving to and from work. I guess to each his own, as for me I will be back down there every time I get the chance and can afford it.

Hey Littlebighorn, the buck had been rubbing so hard that he had alot of his hair missing between his horns and he also had a large gouge on the side of his face, either from a horn or the brush. He had one small bloody spot under his hide on the brisket from fighting also.
