Big Typical!

I'd dump him opening day on any unit here in Utah... That fawn is crazy cool...

Hell no its only bad for the atv crowd or road hunters. You also have to look at the average age of a utah hunter is over 40

If bowhunting was easy rifle hunters would do it...

Pretty nice looking fawn hope it growns up and throws out some big buck with the same coloring.

NO! You would love to rat hole me into one area and for the most part you might be able to but what you don't know is I have loads of friends I like to help out with and they just have a regular general rifle tag. Guess what they kill great bucks just like yours almost every year. I also see big bucks either on there deer hunts or my elk hunts. Heck on my cow elk hunt this year I saw a legitimate 30" buck that would go in the 180's and this was in a general area.

I'm not going to say where I see any of the big bucks friends of mine have seen or the big bucks Ive seen with my own eyes because guys on mm are like seagulls going to the dump when they find out about a good spot. All I can say is there is good hunting on general units anywhere in Utah if you get off your butt.

Muley why don't you post a photo of your dink buck you shot last year? How about tell the man where you shot it while your at it. Then ask yourself what the hell is wrong with a buck like that with a general tag that doesn't take a life time to draw. Its a general tag and even you found one. One more question did you shoot it road hunting?

These once in your life time hunts suck unless your rich or gullible enough to think if you have 35 points you can finally kill yourself a 200+ buck. No thanks ill take my chances every year with that goal but will also settle for a bunch more 170+ bucks like I already have. Wall space is getting hard to find at my house and Ive only hunted general units. Ive never hunted a LE unit with my own tag.

SW,
Nothing wrong at all with the buck that I killed this year. I'd love to shoot one like that every year. To be specific I shot him on the Fishlake. More than likely he was a buck that came over off of the Thousand Lake LE unit, based on where I shot him and traditional deer movement in that area. Yes I did spot him from the truck, but no I did not shot him from the road. So I'll let you be the judge of that. Anymore info?

And yes I would agree with you goal of shooting a 170 inch deer every year as opposed to a 200 inch yard buck once every 10.

One question for you. Was it the joy of the outdoors and loving hunting that brought you back after a 9 yr lay off or was it the big bucks of the WF that did it?

I have already "splaned" this to you once so im not sure I should even do it again. Here it is for the last time.

I only left hunting mule deer because at the time I didn't know how to apply for the hunts, I didn't have the money to mail in for the hunts. I didn't grow up in a family that hunted. The hunting took a dive imho. The hunting was not as good back then as it is now. The hunting now is way better!!! Once again all the friends I did have that hunted at that time in my life wanted to get drunk and chase women. I went along for the women part. I also didn't have time nor the desire to chase mule deer back then. I was mostly into fishing and went to work catching fish large enough to put on my wall.
tigermuskie016.jpg
when I accomplished my fishing goals I decided I wanted a buck on the wall. So I picked up a bow because I could purchase a tag over the counter at the time and the rifle tags were sold out.

the first year back with my bow I was hooked on hunting again. I just want to hunt. If I could hunt every year with a rifle I would. I don't like waiting periods!! Again If I could hunt every year with a rifle I would. If I could hunt every year with my rifle and still hunt as big a bucks as i do with my bow I junk the bow in a heart beat. We both know that is a pipe dream. We both know this is why archery only units are the shiz and they are not a pipe dream.

Im done with this discussion on why I think Utah rocks and why you think it sucks. I think Utah has great hunting on our general units. I think with hard work you can find one to hang on your wall. You might even get lucky and get an easy one like it sounds like you did. It however hasn't happened the easy way for me yet. Every thing I have taken has been because I put the boot work and packed in the miles on the hill. I can honestly say I have not located and then killed one good buck while driving my truck or wheeler. I also think if it was easy they everyone would get one.I dislike LE units. I dislike waiting periods. I dislike SFW and their once in a lifetime hunts as well.

I always heard "10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish." I think it must be the same way with mule deer.

If hunting was easy then everyone would have a big buck..

SW that fish is AWESOME!! I'm assuming its from Pineview?

Sweet mount too. Is that the real skin or did you have a fiberglass reproduction done?

Neat mount for sure. Saw your pic in Eastmans today also. Congrats.

Don't think will ever see eye to eye on the deer agenda..... That's ok! Maybe we can take a nice easy drive and I can show ya a few bucks from the truck! I'll point them out and you can hike to them.

Not to Hi-Jack or get off subject but that Fish mount is BAD A$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!

I'm not a big fisherman, but that is AWESOME!

Muley

swbuckmaster how big is that? I am guessing 54" - 40lb???? Great musky by the way!

Thanks for the comments on the fish. it was 51.5" long and 31 lbs. It is a real skin mount with the real teeth and gills as well. the only thing fake is the eyes. The perch are also real skin mounts with original gills. I think it is one of the best fish mounts Ive seen. The fish was caught at pineview res before it was popular to fish for these fish. Back in the day it wasn't uncommon for me to catch several over 40" in a day. They are with out a doubt my most favorite fish to catch in Utah. Where else can you fish a fish like that in the morning and then go back to the docks and look at half naked Ogden chicks wearing g string bikini's while your eating lunch then go to catch n carp with a lure, then back to muskie for the evening.

Its too bad the muskie fishing tanked is in the rebuild mode right now..

To increase quality Utah needs to manage

weapons.

THey are a very exciting fish. I used to fish them a lot with my dad prior to joining the navy. Sometimes on the real clear lakes we would start fishing at dark and get home around sunrise. It is a rush hearing and feeling the fish but not being able to see it :)

adventurewrit,
I have my feelings on the score. What do you think? The more you watch the video the larger he gets in my opinion. Mass is not the greatest but he is long in all the right places.

By the was it is a very sweet looking mount!

My biggest is a replica chasing a large sunfish, in a glass case. I built a wood bottom for it that is sloped down to help simulate the bottom contour.

kinda an off question but does anyone know anything about the music playing with the video?

Ya, I must of missed the fishing segment in the video! Maybe if I post a fishing video we could talk about muledeer?
