Would any of you hunt this unit in mid Dec(6-16)with the muzzleloader? Is it worth wasteing points on? Please post any pictures of bucks on this unit dead or alive you have seen in the last few years.

11point, but a big but, I plan on not hunting the unit if I don't see any good buck by the end of Nov than I will turn the tag in. The time of year works best for me this year that's why I put in for it. I know if the weather is in you can kill a big deer. That why I was wondering if anyone watched or seen nice bucks this winter, true 180" gross class buck or better.

One of my brothers old buddies killed a nice buck down there this year. It would probably score in the 180s maybe 190s but as far as I know he hasn't put a tape on it. I believe he shot it with a rifle though, I know it was on Thanksgiving day.

Too many Budweiser's again!

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!

Sneekee,

Are you kidding me? Other than the Henry's (which you will never draw), show me a better trophy hunt in Utah to spend your deer points on.

Hint: There ain't one.

Those Triangle deer are Colorado unit 40 deer which migrate in. Low PJ/rimrock/sagebrush country.....fairly open......little company........good hunt in this day and age for anywhere much less Utah. Go for it.

Thanks that what I thought, just tring to get some information, knowing I will not draw the henry's ever. Going to put in for unit 40 also get the biggest bang for my $ while I scout. Done alittle home work just want to see some pictures of deer on those units. Plus the horn growth should be great this year in that area.

Above I said 180" buck or bigger is always the goal.

I am told that unit is very weather dependent and if you get a dry warm fall you might be eating all those points. It is hard to pin your hopes on the weather, but I guess it is all a gamble anyway.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-17-11 AT 01:49AM (MST)[p]A dry warm fall may change the hunt, but the muzzle hunt is in December. No need to eat any points...just venison. A quick look at the success rates will tell the story. Even in warm/dry years there are PLENTY of bucks in that unit. The bucks I've seen come out of there are mid to high 20's, good tined bucks that score 175-190. There are so few tags that you feel like you have the whole unit to yourself. If I had your points that's where I'd be looking to go. You will not regret this hunt.

Good ML hunt, IMO for the bucks that move in due to weather.
You will still a few local deer no matter what.
