30" main beams

has anyone every taken a buck with 30"+ main beams? My Henry's buck this year had 28 1/2" main beams and I took a CO buck with 27" mains but never seen any bucks in my lifetime with longer than that. I love the long sweeping mains.

I glanced through the book Wyoming's Finest Mule Deer...out of all those tremendous bucks, only one deer has ONE side that breaks 30". The Herb Klein buck has a main of 31 6/8. Other side is 27 and change. There are several bucks with 29+ but only that one breaks the 30 mark. Interestingly enough, while looking, I noticed a buck that scores 258 6/8 with only 10 0/8 and 5 0/8" main beams! The John Fabian buck on P. 118.

So maybe I can take from that that a buck with 30" mains is more rare than a 200" over all? Anyone have a pic of a buck with main beams over 30"?

According to Boone and Crocket trophy search

Typical entries:
Longest entered 32 7/8 32 4/8
198 6/8 buck from NM
20 bucks entered with atleist 1 beam
30 in or longer.

Non-Typical entries:
Longest entered 34 5/8 30 1/8
247 5/8 from sevier, UT
19 bucks entered with atleist 1 beam
30 in or longer.

Give or take a couple in both categories.

Very Very rare!!!

I would love to see pics. When we spotted my Henry's buck this year from over a mile away through the spotter all we kept saying was, "look at those freakin' main beams" and he was 28 1/2 with only a 26" main frame.

I'd like to see a pic of your buck Marley. Oh wait, never mind, I forgot.
I'd like to see Max's buck too, But I'am sure some outfitter or some magizine owns exclusive photo rights to it so he can't post pics.

I believe my dad's buck is in the 28-30 range on its mainbeams. I will have to put a tape on it next time it is down at his house. It would easily make boone & crocket, but he has never had it scored. I posted it a while back on this forum, but could do it again if you guys want to see a great buck from Utahs glory days...

I bet Eldorado could find us one!

RE: JFP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a simple fix B-bop! Just use a hack saw, it does wonders on those 24 inchers :)

According to B&C, the R. mainbeam measures 30 1/8 and the L. mainbeam 28 6/8.

The 40 inch buck Denny Austed killed in UT a few years ago had 30 inch beams, but no eye guards.

Here is my dad's old buck. I can't quite remember the length, but I know the eye guard on the good side is 6 inches. You can use that to guess the length...

One of these days, I will have to get the old bugger scored. He had a damaged skull and the one side is a lot wider than the other or else he would have been easily 40+ wide.

Here's a buck I measured a few years back. It was shot in the Kaibab in the 60's. Right MB was 30 1/8", left was 30 0/8" long.......both curved downward, which added to the overall length. Even with his short G4's.....he made the all-time book as a non-typical mule deer.

I found this buck in a resturant. The photogragh is poor and does not show just how impressive this buck is. I'd say that this bucks mainbeams are + 27".

That buck is a toad. Love the sweeping mainbeams, deep forks, and extras on that rack. How many times in out of the way bars, shops, and restaurants do you find big, old buck mounts.

Ok, measured the mainbeams on my dad's buck. Barely 28 on the left or good side and a little over 26 on the damaged side. I would venture to say 30 inch main beams on a muley are pretty rare.
