My nephew Drew this tag and i will be helping him but have never been down on the unit he is 15 and wou like to get a good buck does anyone have any genral areas that they could help out with? Thanks

Hey Stewy!
Congrats to the nephew! I have never hunted there but I know there are lots of management bucks, so he should be able to find a decent one. I will keep my ears out for any info and pass it on if I can. I know you have been willing to do the same for me!

Most bucks on the unit are management bucks. They start rutting around the first of November so they are dumb and everywhere. Just take a trip to the unit if you can to learn some roads, trails, water holes. You will pass up 20-40 bucks a day just driving trails. Fun hunt. Lots of bucks.

Dillon,
What you are saying is exactly what we heard all last year before the hunt. We went into the hunt with huge expectations of seeing tons of bucks. Maybe even a monster or two. Not the case at all. Maybe it was the weather or whatever, but it was by no means a canned hunt. We hunted our butts off, not only to find a management buck, but just to find bucks in general.. Did you go on the hunt last year?? We hunted the entire week and finally filled the tag on the last hour of the last day.. Do not go into this hunt like we did last year thinking that you will see 20-40 bucks a day and that they are everywhere. They are not!! Hopefully this year is different and you get to pick and choose through all the bucks, but if its like last year, plan on hunting very hard to find what you are looking for. It is a huge unit and if they are spread out like last year, they can be very hard to find... Good luck and keep us posted...

Yip,

Openingday is right, if you want to see 20 to 40 buck a day, see them in your dreams or wait until the 90 hunters go home. Going to be a tough hunt, especially if the weather doesn't cooperate. The giants most of you think you will be shooting would be like finding and shooting a 200" deer on the Pauns. regular rifle hunt. We have two tags and I figure if we find one suitable buck we will be lucky. Suitable will be big. I can tell you this, we will be there the whole hunt.

hey i live down here in kanab and i am a guide here in southern utah send me a pm and i will tell you where to go and how to get ahold of me and i will be more then happy to help a youth hunter out

Sorry to jump on the negative train but what dillon just said ignore it on a good day you may see 20 bucks and out of that group there may be one mangement buck that you would want to shoot you wont be passing up bucks left and right i live down here on the unit and i also guide this unit and its people that come on here and tell people what to expect aand they themselves have only hunted the unit once so what i say to you is do your normal scouting just as if this was the regular rifle pauns tag learn the water holes and the trailes they are using and hunt hard dont just ride around thinking (the one) is going to step out right there expect to see 10 bucks plus a day but not 20 to 40
