Book Cliffs Rifle

I found out that I got very lucky and drew out for the Book Cliffs rifle hunt in the end of October. I have never hunted down there and wanted to know if anyone had some tips and advice for me on areas and whatnot. Is the area more for long range shots or can you get close enough for a 2-300 yard shot. I'm shooting a .270 and feel very confident in anything under 300 yards, but am thinking of getting a new rifle if it would help. I plan on doing a lot of scouting and my own homework but would like some idea of where to start since its such a big area. If you would rather pm me you are welcome to do so. I am very excited as this is a rare opportunity to draw out on such an amazing hunt so I want it to me very memorable. Thanks in advance for your help.

Pm sent,
In my opinion your .270 will be the ideal rifle for your hunt.

However I would Trade in your Harley if I were you. lol

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

270's work well out the Truck Window!:D

For GAWDS Sakes Guys,We Got Kids on this Site,Some of them are 65 years Old!:D

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!
:p

Be bob has two 270 one for each side of the truck lmao ) I had the tag last year, tons of deer,a lot of 20 to 25 inch bucks nothing to call home about.

Last year was the 1st time I ever hunted the books and my dad and I were both successful. I took the week off before the hunt and have to say it was key in learning the country, but the deer made a major migration in just the two weeks that I was up there. I'd spend some time in the ridges headed from the top to the lower North country on the eastern side of the unit. Hardest thing is passing on 20 to 30 24in bucks a day! Have fun!

If you haven't been in the bookcliffs during the rifle hunt dont worry about scouting it unless you are going to go out the week before your hunt. The deer are not in the same area as they are during the summer.

Also dont go in with high expectations of killing a monster and defiantly dont shoot the first buck you see. Take your time and sift through them enjoy your hunt or the time you are having during the hunt and you will eventually see a buck to hang your tag on if you put in your time.
